Definitions scientific terms

Microwave effects are still the subject of considerable current debate and controversy, and the reader should be aware that there is no agreement in the scientific community on the role that microwave effects play, not even on a definition of terms. 

Discussions about the PA usually focus on definitions. Such definitions are plentiful, they depend on the scientific and social background of their authors, and they all contain elements of truth and error. One of the basic problems with the PA is that there is no such thing as an overall definition. The application of the PA is always heavily context-dependent. It is no use solving problems associated with applying the PA by means of a generally accepted definition, since it is difficult to define a principle sharply where uncertainty is the main element. The definition of terms and concepts like uncertainty always depend on the scientific, social, cultural and economic background of individuals employing them. 

Domains have proved so fruitful in explaining both the structure and the function of proteins that the concept is certain to survive in one form or another. At some time in the near future it will presumably acquire full scientific respectability with a verifiable definition in terms of either folding units or genetic units or perhaps both. 

The Introduction chapter contains the basic definitions of the main scientific terms, such as 5pectro5copy, luminescence spectroscopy, luminescent mineral, luminescent center, luminescence lifetime, luminescence spectrum and excitation spectrum. The state of the art in the steady-state luminescence of minerals field is presented. The main advantages of the laser-induced time resolved technique in comparison with the steady-state one are shortly described. 

Knowing all this, we nevertheless often use the terms uniform foam and uniform foam-structure without providing them with a definite scientific meaning but rather relying on our visual or even on esthetic notions. 

Entries are easy to read and written in a straightforward style. Difficult words are defined within the text. Each entry also includes a Words to Know sidebar that defines technical words and scientific terms. This enables students to learn vocabulary appropriate to chemistry without having to consult other sources for definitions. 

Together, these changes have expanded the spectrum of research opportunities for clinical pharmaceutical scientists and have fostered the continued evolution of the definition. The term translational research has evolved to define scientific endeavors that provide a critical link between research theory and human application. The result is that today, there is variety in the types of clinical pharmaceutical scientists to be found, which is in fulfillment of the Millis Commission imperative.

Most entries in italic type are symbols for physical quantities for more details on these, see the table Symbols and Terminology for Physical and Chemical Quantities in this section. Additional information on units may be found in the table International System of Units (SI) in Section 1.
