Curriculum materials

Curriculum development at the K-12 level goes hand-and-hand with teacher training. The development of green chemistry curriculum materials must involve collaboration between the green chemistry researchers and the K-12 teacher. Several approaches have been found to be effective in developing curriculum, which can be applied in the K-12 classroom. [Pg.182]

Larson, Andrea conducts research and teaches as a member of the faculty at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. Her work focuses on corporate entrepreneurial innovation at the nexus of business and natural systems. A forthcoming book and wide range of curriculum materials highlight cost, profit, and market advantage opportunities for firms adopting sustainability principles. [Pg.506]

As you become more comfortable with the idea of homeschooling your child, or if you ve been homeschooling for a few years now, you may decide to depend less on commercial materials and to create more of your own curriculum materials and guidelines. Your custom-created curriculum... [Pg.19]

Do not allow yourself to believe that you cannot teach your child a given subject. Where there is a will, there is a way, and it is up to you to find the way to educate your child. Today s Information Age provides so many options to homeschooling parents, whether through video courses, audio tools, or special curriculum materials. Also, remember that in some areas, the local public schools are amenable to your child attending public school or local colleges on a part time basis just to attend the one or two desired classes. [Pg.25]

This volume provides a wealth of information about resources for hands-on science programs. It describes science curriculum materials, supplementary materials (science activity books, books on teaching science, reference books, and magazines), museum programs, and elementary science curriculum projects. [Pg.183]

The National Science Resources Center Is operated by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Academy of Sciences to Improve the teaching of science in the nation s schools. The NSRC collects and disseminates information about exemplary teaching resources, develops and disseminates curriculum materials, and sponsors outreach activities, specifically in the areas of leadership development and technical assistance, to help school districts develop and sustain hands-on science programs. The NSRC is located In the Arts and Industries Building of the Smithsonian Institution and in the Capital Gallery Building In Washington, D.C. [Pg.215]

Whilst we will focus where possible on aspects of curriculum materials developed for use in chemistry teaching, the fact the majority of materials with a context-based approach have been developed for use at the secondary level means that they very often embrace chemistry as part of a science course. It is in any case a feature of context-based approaches that the science they embrace ramifies beyond the traditional subject disciplines, reflecting the realities of the way science is applied in practice. [Pg.167]

Assist teachers in translating what is learned from first-hand internship experiences into curriculum materials for use in the classroom ... [Pg.81]

The internship is completed during the summer months. During this time, weekly group meetings for each teacher and the curriculum supervisor are held to plan and discuss the STS materials to be prepared for use in the classroom. The curriculum materials are completed by the end of the summer ... [Pg.84]

The completed curriculum materials are submitted to the curriculum department of the respective school systems of the teachers for discussion and approval for use in the classroom. After the materials meet approval, they are field tested and revised for inclusion in a handbook by January 1 and,... [Pg.84]

The interns viewed the experience as very beneficial and are in the process of finalizing the curriculum materials. These materials will be made available locally and nationally. [Pg.86]

Novick Nussbam (16) conducted a cross-age stucfy in early work on the topic to show that students hold misconceptions about nature and behavior of particles. They found that many misconceptions are not overcome widi age. For example, over 60% of high school and university students did not picture empty space between gas particles, and more than 50% of these students did not show uniform distribution of gas particles in a closed flask. In addition, less than 50% of these students correctly indicated that the uniform particle distribution was due to constant particle motion. The study recommended that instructors should be aware of such misconceptions by solicting students ideas concerning chemistry concepts and should use this knowledge to prepare curriculum materials. At this point, it was not known exactly what one could use to combat these misconceptions dealing with phenomena that could not be seen. [Pg.70]

In reviewing the curriculum materials developed for this class, I found that the text was well organized. ... [Pg.154]

Vicky Wong taught Science and Chemistry in the UK, Spain and New Zealand for ten years. She was the Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Fellow in 2004-2005 and now works as an independent science education consultant running training courses for teachers, writing curriculum materials and undertaking research. [Pg.390]

In traditional chemistry education usually refers to an example of a practical application of chemical concepts already studied. Along with the curriculum demand, such concept-led applications become a kind of justification for learning chemical concepts. A traditional approach as this will not enhance students motivation to leam chemistry topics (cf Van Berkel, De Vos, Verdonk Pilot, 2000). In this research project, the curriculum materials developed include a context-... [Pg.170]

The committee recommends that developers of K-12 engineering curriculum materials consider using the CTC or similar messages in their materials, promotional efforts, and related teacher professional development. [Pg.76]

Some safety programs require documentation of safety training for students taking laboratory courses. If the course curriculum material shows that safety topics are included in the laboratory, and the student pre-lab reports referred to above are retained, the need for documentation may be satisfied. [Pg.368]

In addition, there are many curriculum materials on the internet which try to offer teachers ideas on how to do classical chemistry experiments with materials from everyday life (e.g. see the UNESCO database). These alternatives may combine the idea of micro-scale (small scale) kit approaches with the principle of low-cost experimental equipment e.g. where the traditional laboratory glassware (or micro-scale glassware) may be replaced by less expensive alternatives, often made of plastic. One such example is the project Student Active Learning in Science (SALiS) which offers a guide and collection of examples for low-cost equipment and experiments. [Pg.322]
