Control steam

The copolymers have been used in the manufacture of extruded pipe, moulded fittings and for other items of chemical plant. They are, however, rarely used in Europe for this purpose because of cost and the low maximum service temperature. Processing conditions are adjusted to give a high amount of crystallinity, for example by the use of moulds at about 90°C. Heated parts of injection cylinders and extruder barrels which come into contact with the molten polymer should be made of special materials which do not cause decomposition of the polymer. Iron, steel and copper must be avoided. The danger of thermal decomposition may be reduced by streamlining the interior of the cylinder or barrel to avoid dead-spots and by careful temperature control. Steam heating is frequently employed. [Pg.468]

This style of fuzzy conditional statement is often called a Mamdani -type rule, after Mamdani (1976) who first used it in a fuzzy rulebase to control steam plant. [Pg.332]

Flare systems must be protected against any possibility of partial or complete blockage by ice, hydrates, solidification, etc. Seal Drums and Y-seals requiring winterizing should be provided with temperature-controlled steam injection to maintain the seal water temperature at 4 to 10 C. This limits the quantity of water vapor entering the flare stack. [Pg.283]

The maximum or minimum temperature attainable in a vessel can be limited by properly designed jacket heating systems. If steam heating is used, maximum temperatures can be limited by controlling steam pressure. A steam desuperheater may be needed to avoid excessive temperature of superheated steam from a pressure letdown station. [Pg.987]

In subsequent years, Savery made important improvements that benefited future steam inventions. In June 1699 he demonstrated to the Royal Society a pump with two receivers, each with a separate, hand-controlled steam supply. This ensured improved continuity of operation, allowing one receiver tn operate in its vacuum stage and the other under steam pressure. In 1701, he added two more critical steps a second boiler, avoiding the need to shut down the fire and pump, between stages and he replaced the two interconnected steam cocks with a single valve, run with a manually operated long lever. This may have been the inspiration for the modern slide valve and his inventiveness created, in effect, the world s first feed-water heater. [Pg.1027]

Efficiency is related to turbine loading and the response to changes in operation. Key factors in part-load turbine performance are the operational methods employed to control steam flow to the turbine and the actions taken to reduce boiler cycling, low-load conditions, and boiler water carryover. [Pg.21]

The biomass is fed overbed through multiple feed chutes using air jets to help distribute the fuel over the surface of the bed. Variable-speed screw conveyors are usually used to meter the fuel feed rate and control steam output. Feedstocks such as bark and waste wood are chipped to a top size of 25 mm (1 in) to ensure complete combustion. The bed usually consists of sand around 1 m (3 ft) deep. This serves to retain the fuel in the furnace, extending its in-furnace residence time and increasing combustion efficiency. It also provides a heat sink to help maintain bed temperature during periods of fluctuating fuel moisture content. [Pg.39]

Different procedures can be used in practice to activate the zeolite, and the choice of a particular method will depend on the catalytic characteristics desired. If the main objective is to prepare a very active cracking catalyst, then a considerable percentage of the sodium is exchanged by rare earth cations. On the other hand, if the main purpose is to obtain gasoline with a high RON, ultrastable Y zeolites (USY) with very low Na content are prepared. Then a small amount of rare earth cations is exchanged, but a controlled steam deactivation step has to be introduced in the activation procedure to obtain a controlled dealumination of the zeolite. This procedure achieves a high thermal and hydrothermal stability of the zeolite, provided that silicon is inserted in the vacancies left by extraction of A1 from the framework (1). The commercial catalysts so obtained have framework Si/Al ratios in the... [Pg.17]

The temperature of the heating medium often rises with column temperature. For instance, when steam to the reboiler is flow-controlled, steam pressure (and condensate temperature) will rise until it reaches the supply-line pressure (Fig. 9.2c). Credit can only be taken either when the steam pressure reaches the supply-line pressure, or when control valve capacity is reached. [Pg.240]

The first thing we did after we were satisfied with test conditions was to set up a series of standard curves. These are shown in Figure 3. We have plotted the C5+ gasoline, total C4 s, dry gas and coke yields against the volume percent conversion of the gas oil. The conversion was controlled by varying the activity of the standard silica-alumina gel catalyst. This was done by controlled steam treatment. [Pg.257]

Therefore, a utility optimizer could determine the most efficient and economic operation to supply energy to satisfy process demand. There are several major options to achieve this overall goal including driver selection, utility equipment loading allocation, steam head pressure control, steam letdown rate minimization, power generation versus purchasing, and contract management. [Pg.486]

Because of the fundamental difference between sterilisation of finished medicinal products and medical devices (temperature-controlled hot water process vs. -pressure-controlled steam process), both processes have their own validation directive. Most countries have then-own National legislation and standards on sterilisation and validation. International ISO standards are always useful or are implemented and commented in the own country for steam sterilisation see [6]. [Pg.684]
