Construction Stage Checks

Inspection is of importance to ensure that fabricators are working according to design codes and quality control. Assembled items are of the right material and specifications for common items such as valves, piping, and welding electrodes must correspond to the standard prescribed specifications. It may be necessary to perform trial runs with the equipment supplied by manufacturers before full-scale operations. [Pg.298]

The factors influencing plant and process design are as follows. This has to comply with equipment and process data specifications with the following input  [Pg.298]

Planned maintenance or regular replacement of plant equipment to avoid failure by corrosion is an essential adjunct to design and constitutes the third phase of control. The factors contributing to a policy of planned maintenance philosophy are (i) predictable and reasonable rate of corrosion for material (ii) discounted cash flow advantage over life of plant in using a cheaper less-resistant material (iii) factors other than corrosion dictating regular maintenance (iv) no feasible alternative to corrodible material (v) installed spare preferred policy for reliability of plant. [Pg.298]

The design philosophy determines the emphasis placed on controlling corrosion by this means, as opposed to spending resources at the construction stage to prevent corrosion. Planned maintenance should be avoided when maintenance labor costs are high or spares may be difficult to procure. [Pg.298]

Planned maintenance consists of periodic shutdowns to inspect the equipment and refurbish or replace equipment that failed because of corrosion or other failure meeh-anisms. [Pg.298]

The basic position of the temperature probe will be determined in the construction stage of the reactor. The correct function of the actual probes must be checked on a regular basis. The actual temperature may be randomly... [Pg.62]

All these items must be properly checked and recorded according to the manufacturer s internal quality checks and formats before they are used in the manufacture of a bus system. This will eliminate any inconsistency in a material or component at the initial stage. Similarly, stage inspections are necessary during the course of manufacturing to ensure quality at every stage and to eliminate incorrect construction and as.sembly or poor workmanship. And thus assure a product of desired specifications and quality. [Pg.953]

The bottom-up approach contains two distinct stages. First, by successive backpropagation steps one builds a decision policy. Then, this uncovered policy is evaluated and refined, and its expected benefits confirmed before any implementation actually takes place. This two-stage process is conceptually similar to dynamic programming solution strategies, where first a decision policy is constructed by backward induction, and then one finds a realization of the process for the given policy, in order to check its expected performance (Bradley et al., 1977). [Pg.145]

As usual, the pre-construction survey stage coincides with the construction period. In order to check the issued geotechnical decisions and the recommendations the following should be envisaged for control purposes authors supervision. geotechnical documentation of trenches, construction trenches and other boreholes and trial pits as well as the regime and survey works in order to accurately identify the engendering construction activities. [Pg.265]

Mathematical modelling is the important stage at designing HHP. At a successful choice of model of processes in HHP and at approach of modelled boundary conditions real conditions developers have an effective tool for fast check of constructive decisions. [Pg.395]

Once the parameters are calculated, the final stage is the construction of a model, i.e., the validation. This stage consists of checking the results of the model for several different experimental cases. Its goal is to confirm that simulations carried out with the model reproduce the behavior of the processes in a proper way. Some statistical procedures are typically applied in this stage. The best way to validate a model is to compare experimental and modeled data by means of two different tests ... [Pg.102]

Vapor pressure eudiometer. This apparatus was originally devised as a tool for analytical checking of the course of decomposition of ammines or hydrates, but it is also useful for preparatory purposes, e.g., when determination of a definite stage of decomposition is desired. Figure 85 shows the construction of this device. The substance is enclosed in the smallest possibleflaska and a definite quantity of the volatile component is removed from it. The right leg of the manometer m is calibrated in milliliters from the zero position (both legs at equilibrium) down. The volumes of a, of the various tube sections between stopcocks and 3,... [Pg.102]

Dll. An absorption column for laboratory use has been carefully constructed so that it has exactly 4 equilibrium stages and is being used to measure equilibrium data. Water is used as the solvent to absorb ammonia from air. The system operates isothermally at 80°F and 1 atm. The inlet water is pure distilled water. The ratio of L/V = 1.2, inlet gas concentration is 0.01 mole frac ammonia, and the measured outlet gas concentration is 0.0027 mole frac ammonia. Assuming that equilibrium is of the form y = mx, calculate the value of m for ammonia. Check your result. [Pg.501]
