The second edition CD-ROM contains 139 validation SOPs they are made available so that customers can input them into their computers and use their Microsoft Word programs to edit and print these documents. The contents of the procedures are written in simple and precise language to be in compliance with FDA regulation GMP and GLP requirements. The book ensures minimization of the number of documents to avoid the nightmare of the head of quality assurance at the time of FDA audit. When you create your resume on a computer, using a word processor or resume-creation software, save that document file, just as you would any other document. A traditional resume (one that is to be printed and then sent to potential employers), which you save on your computer s hard disk as a Microsoft Word document, for example, is different from an electronic (digital) resume that will be formatted differently, will take advantage of keywords, and will ultimately be e-mailed (not printed on paper and sent) to a potential employer. [Pg.61]

One problem with documents kept in any system is that other people given the document will need the same application to view the document. Sending a file in Microsoft Word format requires that the recipient also own a copy of Microsoft Word. Without it, the document cannot be viewed. This problem has been solved by a new standard known as Acrobat from Adobe systems. By using Acrobat, anyone wishing to publish a document uses the Acrobat software to create a version readable by the Acrobat Reader. The reader software is freely distributed, so the recipient of a document need not buy a copy of the original software. Besides being able to create documents viewable by anyone, this new standard also allows the document to be indexed. Any part of the document can also be cross-referenced to other sections. These features are especially useful in documentation, particularly in NDA submissions. Volumes of paper documents can now be stored on a single disk and instantly cross-referenced. A reviewer could have an entire NDA available on the computer screen. [Pg.436]

From time to time it may be necessary to remove data or other electronic records from an on-line computer system to another durable secure location for long term off-line storage. This removal also includes the removal of the metadata associated with the record, for example, the properties of a Microsoft Word document or a series of data definition and table relationships. [Pg.820]

Traditionally data, properties, information etc has been stored in files on computer disks. More recently, it has become common practice on Macintosh computers, when using Microsoft software or some UNIX applications, to use either extensions to the file name or the first few bytes in the file (or another file) to indicate some aspects of the data, for example that it is suitable for Microsoft Excel. While this approach is practical to indicate something about files containing columns of data, it is not appropriate to store information about the values in cells in spreadsheet or how it relates to data in other columns. This requires a relational database such as ORACLE, and for performance reasons the values in the cells may only be accessed via the ORACLE API (Application Programming Interface) or SQL (Standard Query Language), in other words, it is suggested that relational databases such as ORACLE should be viewed as sophisticated file systems which allow the values to be organised, efficiently stored, rapidly retrieved etc. [Pg.179]

In most cases, though, users aren t satisfied to only use the tools that are provided with Windows. Either a particular tool they need isn t included (for example, Microsoft didn t put a spreadsheet application into Windows), or they need a more sophisticated version of a particular application—Wordpad and Word 2000 are both word processors, but that s about where the similarity ends. This demand has led to a booming software industry, and there are literally thousands of applications available that users can install and use with Windows. Because of this, installing and maintaining programs on user s computers is a big part of a technician s job.
