Anionic compounds

Antistatic polystyrenes have been developed in terms of additives or coatings to minimise primarily dust collecting problems in storage (see Antistatic agents). Large Hsts of commercial antistatic additives have been pubhshed (41). For styrene-based polymers, alkyl and/or aryl amines, amides, quaternary ammonium compounds, anionics, etc, are all used. [Pg.507]

Cationic, anionic, and amphoteric surfactants derive thek water solubiUty from thek ionic charge, whereas the nonionic hydrophile derives its water solubihty from highly polar terminal hydroxyl groups. Cationic surfactants perform well in polar substrates like styrenics and polyurethane. Examples of cationic surfactants ate quaternary ammonium chlorides, quaternary ammonium methosulfates, and quaternary ammonium nitrates (see QuARTERNARY AMMONIUM compounds). Anionic surfactants work well in PVC and styrenics. Examples of anionic surfactants ate fatty phosphate esters and alkyl sulfonates. [Pg.297]

Today the term anionic polymerisation is used to embrace a variety of mechanisms initiated by anionic catalysts and it is now common to use it for all polymerisations initiated by organometallic compounds (other than those that also involve transition metal compounds). Anionic polymerisation does not necessarily imply the presence of a free anion on the growing polymer chain. [Pg.35]

This introduces covalent character into the ionic compound. Anions with a large radius and high negative charge are very polarisable. [Pg.36]

Decarboxylation of 1,3-dimethylorotic acid in the presence of benzyl bromide yields 6-benzyl-1,3-dimethyluracil and presumably involves a C(6) centered nucleophilic intermediate which could nonetheless have either a carbene or ylide structure. Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry has been used to explore the gas-phase reactions of methyl nitrate with anions from active methylene compounds anions of aliphatic ketones and nitriles react by the 5n2 mechanism and Fco reactions yielding N02 ions are also observed nitronate ions are formed on reaction with the carbanions derived from toluenes and methylpyridines. [Pg.381]

In the most general sense, any anion radical produced by reduction with a metal, or by electrolytic reduction in the presence of a metallic counterion could be considered an organometallic anion radical. Any review based on such a definition would be monumental. To achieve a manageable volume of material, with a content suitable to the context of this series, we have limited this chapter to anion radicals produced from organometallic compounds. Anion radicals for which the metal is present solely as the reducing agent or counterion have, for the most part, been excluded. [Pg.273]

The names of anions usually end in -ide if there are monatomic or homopolyatomic, or -ate for heteropolyatomic anions and coordination compounds. Anionic ligands usually end in -o. Thus CP is chloride, I3 is triiodide and S042 is sulfate but become, chloro, triiodo and sulfato if they are coordinated as ligands. The names of complex anions are not always derived from the familiar name... [Pg.142]
