Ozone can be used to completely oxidize low concentrations of organics in aqueous streams or partially degrade compounds that are refractory or difficult to treat by other methods. Compounds that can be treated with ozone include alkanes, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, phenols, benzene and its derivatives, and cyanide. Ozone readHy oxidizes cyanide to cyanate, however, further oxidation of the cyanate by ozone proceeds rather slowly and may require other oxidation treatment like alkaline chlorination to complete the degradation process. [Pg.163]

The preparation of isothiazolidin-3-one 5-oxide and 5,5-dioxide derivatives of azetidin-3-ones was described (99EUP100069), starting from penicillanic acid sulfoxide amides in the presence of halogenating agents in anhydrous inert solvents or even without them. Through rearrangement and oxidation with conventional methods, compounds 73 could be obtained. For some derivatives the usefulness, as intermediates for the preparation of novel p-lactam analogs or active substances in formulations for antimicrobial therapy, is claimed. [Pg.80]

The structures of 106 and 107 were also investigated in ether and THF solutions by using IR and NMR methods. Compound 107 was synthesized in order to avoid problems with the rapid rearrangement at > — 20 °C of 106 to an alkynyllithium derivative. The lithiomethoxyallene had to be synthesized at ca —78 °C in THF or diethyl ether and it was measured in situ without isolation of the metalated product. Its NMR data are given in Table 42. [Pg.167]

By the same method, compounds 148, 149 and 150a-e were generated, all bearing phenyl substituents in a-position to the lithiated carbon centre (Figure 20) ". ... [Pg.972]

These complexes are generally prepared by methods similar to those employed for the dinitrosyl compounds, treatment of a low-valent molybdenum compound with NO or a nitrosyl derivative being the principal method. Compounds and major physical properties are collected in Table 3. [Pg.1275]

The resolution of the column provides much of the selectivity in LCEC therefore, the practical limitations of amperometry are circumvented to a large extent. Nevertheless, amperometry is more often than not used to improve the selectivity of an LC method. Compounds that oxidize or reduce at low potentials can be detected with great selectivity. [Pg.816]

We first reported the one-bead one-compound (OBOC) combinatorial library method in 1991.1 In this method, compound beads are prepared by a split-mix synthesis approach1 3 (Fig. 1) that results in the display of many copies of the same compound on one single bead.1,4 Tens of thousands to millions of these compound beads can easily be prepared. The bead library is then mixed with a target molecule, such as a protein, an... [Pg.298]

The key starting compound is the mono nitro derivative of calix[4]arene 4, which was obtained via a single-step reaction with 10 equivalents of 63% HNO3 in a mixture of dichloromethane and glacial acetic acid in less than 5 min in 94% yield according to the literature method. Compound 4 converted to bisphthalonitrile derivative 5 by the given method in 59% yield. Ball-type ZnPc 6 was prepared from 5 and zinc acetate in 1-pentanol in the presence of DBU. Hexanuclear ball-type ZnPc 8 was obtained by the reaction of 6 with 7 in a mixture of NaOH, MeOH, THF, and activated zinc powder with a yield of 55%. [Pg.109]

Recently they synthesized more 12-alkyldeoxoartemisinins (Scheme 5-13) according to this method. Compound 129 [R = p-CH2CH(OH)Et, p-CH2CH(OH)-Bu(f)] showed five to seven times greater activity in vitro than qinghaosu. ... [Pg.210]

Several other approved AIDS drugs that act by inhibition of HIV-P have also been developed through use of SBDD methods. Compound (42) (amprenavir, Agenerase, also known as VX-478) is the most recent addition to the HIV-P inhibitors approved for human antiviral treatment, and differs significantly from earlier inhibitors. Compound (42) was specifically designed by Vertex scientists to minimize molecular weight to increase oral... [Pg.441]

Ring-chain isomerism between l-[alkylidene(or arylidene)amino]-2-aminoethanes and imidazolidines has been investigated by NMR spectroscopic methods. Compounds 147 with R = H R = Me, Et, -Pr exist only in the cyclic form 147B, whereas with R = H R =Ph exist only in the linear form 147A. Both linear and cyclic forms are detectable in solution when R = Me R = Me, Et, -Pr, and R= H, R = /-Pr (Scheme 40) <1998OPP109>. [Pg.180]

Using the above methods, compounds have also been obtained from quinoline-8-sulphonic acid and 8-hydroxyquinoline. [Pg.215]
