Complexation studies

Fortunately, azachalcone derivatives (2.4a-g, Scheme 2.4) turned out to be extremely suitable dienophiles for Lewis-add catalysed Diels-Alder reactions with cyclopentadiene (2.5). This reaction is outlined in Scheme 2.4 and a large part of this thesis will be devoted to the mechanistic details of this process. The presence of a chromophore in 2.4 allows kinetic studies as well as complexation studies by means of UV-vis spectroscopy. Furthermore, the reactivity of 2.4 is such that also the... [Pg.49]

The enhanced binding predicts a catalytic potential for these solutions and prompted us to investigate the influence of the different types of micelles on the rate of the copper-ion catalysed reaction. Table 5.5 summarises the results, which are in perfect agreement with the conclusions drawn from the complexation studies. [Pg.141]

Photooxidafions are also iudustriaHy significant. A widely used treatment for removal of thiols from petroleum distillates is air iu the presence of sulfonated phthalocyanines (cobalt or vanadium complexes). Studies of this photoreaction (53) with the analogous ziuc phthalocyanine show a facile photooxidation of thiols, and the rate is enhanced further by cationic surfactants. For the perfume iudustry, rose oxide is produced iu low toimage quantifies by singlet oxygen oxidation of citroneUol (54). Rose bengal is the photosensitizer. [Pg.435]

In the two complexes studied by x-ray crystallography, the interactions between TBP and the DNA, as well as the deformation of the B-DNA structure, are very similar, and we will illustrate some of these details for the yeast structure. Minor details of the two complexes vary due to differences in some of the side chains and nucleotides that are present in the interaction areas. [Pg.155]

This section discusses the principal causes of overpressure in refinery equipment and describes design procedures for minimizing the effects of these causes. Overpressure is the result of an unbalance or disruption of the normal flows of material and energy that cause material or energy, or both, to build up in some part of the system. Analysis of the causes and magnitudes of overpressure is, therefore a special and complex study of material and energy balances in a process system. [Pg.119]

Another platinum(IV) ammine complex studied as a possible anti-tumour compound is shown in Figure 3.101 [171] m-(l,2-diaminocyclohexane)tetra-chloroplatinum has undergone clinical trials but was found to be too neurotoxic. [Pg.253]

In attempts to understand the photochemical reactions of Fischer carbene complexes, several matrix isolation and flash photolysis studies have been conducted using both Cr and W (but not Mo) complexes [5-11]. Although the complexes studied and conditions used varied, several general conclusions were drawn ... [Pg.158]

Biochemical studies with purified preparations incorporated into liposomes have also been performed [32,33,96-98]. Reconstituted receptors from skeletal muscle bound DHPs, PAAs and diltiazem with high affinity and in a 1 1 1 stoichiometry [97], In general, the reconstituted proteins exhibit the characteristic pharmacological properties expected for these channels. In recent studies, our laboratory has reconstituted partially purified channels into liposomes containing the Ca -sensitive fluorescent dye, fluo-3 [33,96]. These channels exhibit Ca influx that is sensitive to activation by Ca channel activators and inhibitors with affinities similar to those observed in intact cells, and the Ca influx is dependent on the establishment of a gradient in the presence of valinomycin [132]. This assay provides a convenient and rapid approach to obtaining a macroscopic picture of the activity of the channels under different conditions, while the more complex studies in lipid bilayers provide a more complete analysis of the single channel behavior. [Pg.326]

The complexes studied had n = 8,10 and 12 and m = 2 and 3. With the exception of the complex with n = 10 and m = 3, all complexes showed a nematic phase which, in all cases, was monotropic. Thus, melting points were in the range 95 to 108 °C, with clearing points between 90 and 104 °C. [Pg.186]

Forde et al.20 used a more complex study design to examine the effect of boiled coffee vs. paper-filtered coffee vs. coffee abstinence. The investigation involved 33 men with elevated baseline serum cholesterol levels (average 8.7 mmol/L [335 mg/dL]) who apparently were habitual boiled coffee drinkers (implied but not stated). The 10-week study was divided into two 5-week periods. Subjects were assigned to one of four groups (1) continuation of habitual consumption (control), (2) abstinence from coffee for the full 10 weeks, (3) abstinence from coffee for the first 5-weeks, followed by 5 weeks of paper-filtered coffee consumption, and (4) abstinence from coffee for the first 5 weeks, followed by 5 weeks of boiled coffee consumption. [Pg.312]

Several ligands containing pyridine or related groups and sulfur atoms have been synthesized and the silver complexes studied the ligands used are shown in Figure 15. Many of the complexes have a supramolecular structure. [Pg.986]

Table 9 gives some cases where the rotational strengths of absorption bands have been measured in metalloproteins. At the present time these changes are not used to diagnose the nature of the ligands of the metal but rather they have been used to follow minor changes at the metal when substrates or inhibitors interact with the metals. The sensitivity of CD and MCD measurements to very small changes in the metal environment make them very attractive for protein/metal complex studies. [Pg.28]

Complexation studies with bidentate phosphine ligands showed that stable cationic complexes of Tc(V), Tc(III), and Tc(I) are easily accessible. The influence of reaction conditions on reaction route and products is well demonstrated by the reaction of pertechnetate with the prototype 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)-ethane (dmpe) (Fig. 16). Careful control of reduction conditions allows the synthesis of [Tc02(dmpe)2]+, [TCl2(dmpe)2]+, and [Tc(dmpe)3]+, with the metal in the oxidation states V, III, and I [120,121]. This series illustrates the variety of oxidation states available to technetium and their successive generation by the action of a 2-electron reducing agent. [Pg.100]

In closing, recovery of technetium from waste solution should be touched upon. Studies of the base hydrolysis of technetium P-diketone complexes revealed that all of the complexes studied decompose in an alkaline solution even at room temperature, until technetium is finally oxidized to pertechnetate. These phenomena are very important for the management of technetium in waste solutions. Since most metal ions precipitate in alkaline solution, only technetium and some amphoteric metal ions can be present in the filtrate [29]. A further favorable property of pertechnetate is its high distribution coefficient to anion exchangers. Consequently, it is possible to concentrate and separate technetium with anion exchangers from a large volume of waste solution this is especially effective using an alkaline solution [54],... [Pg.273]

The cubic NLO properties of Ru11 tris-(a-diimine) complexes have been investigated only relatively recently by Ji and co-workers using 540 nm Z-scan all of the complexes studied exhibit both NLO absorption and SDF behavior.135-138 The large and 7 values of complexes such as (73) depend on the position of the -N02 group in the order 4- > 2- > 3-.135 Also, the NLO responses decrease on deprotonation of the imidazolyl nitrogens (although this effect is only... [Pg.636]

Open-chain ligands were the first evaluated for complexation studies with indium and yttrium. The use of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) anhydride permitted early evaluation of labeled chelate-conjugates (Figure 2).80 The use of this activated chelating agent was quite popular, until the drawbacks associated with its crosslinking of proteins became apparent. [Pg.892]
