Color enhancement, colored conductive

The irradiation of solid sulfur allotropes or of solid solutions of sulfur rings produces not only free radicals but also new absorbing and unstable species the identity of which is however not always certain (for a discussion, see [61]). The properties of the radicals as well as their mode of generation are summarized in Table 23 [172, 173]. In addition to the formation of radicals and colored species the irradiation of sulfur induces also luminescence and enhanced electrical conductivity [174]. [Pg.57]

The CNS effects of CG (C) are also due to binding to Na /K -ATPases. Enhanced vagal nerve activity causes a decrease in sinoatrial beating rate and velocity of atrioventricular conduction. In patients with heart failure, improved circulation also contributes to the reduction in heart rate. Stimulation of the Lullmann, Color Atlas of Pharmacology 2000 Thieme All rights reserved. Metallic Pigments. These pigments are metal flakes of various sizes made up of aluminum, copper, zinc, and/or their alloys. The aluminum flakes develop the silver metallic colors, whereas the copper, zinc, and aluminum alloys produce the gold, copper, brass, and bronze colors. The metal effect is modified, not only by shape and size, but also by perticle size distribution within a given product. Since aluminum, in particular, as a fine dry powder, can form explosive mixtures with air, most of these materials are commercially available in paste or liquid concentrates. In addition, surface treatments of these materials enhance their appearance and performance. Flakes of other metals, such as stainless steel, are used for surface protection purposes such as corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. [Pg.97]

Recently we have conducted Mossbauer studies of core-to-rim alteration of a deep sea basalt and a continental basalt (59 60). The ocean basalt from the Mariana- deep was altered by seawater, and several concentric layers with different colors could be recognized from core to rim. Based on the Mossbauer spectra and petrographic observation of these layers, chemical states of iron were characterized as ilmenite, titanomagnetite, and silicate minerals (59). The enhanced superpara-magnetic effect in the rim demonstrates that the rim of the sample pre-... [Pg.505]

As naturally abundant and low-cost semiconductor, NiO is widely used in electrochromic windows [20], batteries [21], supercapacitors [22], and sensors [23], While all these applications benefit from an interconnected, three-dimensional NiO nanostructure that combines a high specific surface area with a good electric conductivity, the performance enhancement becomes vividly evident as an increased coloration contrast and improved switching behavior when applied in electrochromic devices. NiO nanomaterials recently employed in electrochromic studies include nanocomposites [24], inverse opals [25], macroporous [26] and mesoporous films [27-29],... [Pg.128]

PROPERTIES OF SPECIAL INTEREST presence of an extended 7r-bonding system, which imparts electrical properties to the polymer. Doping either p or m can enhance these properties. Polypyrrole is stable in air at room temperature as well as at temperatures as high as 250°C in its doped state. Also, polypyrrole can be synthesized in a doped state. It changes color when switched from its conducting to insulating state. [Pg.810]
