It should be emphasized that the VOO authentication regulatory standards, compiled in the European Commission Regulation (EC Reg No 2568/1991 and its later amendments EC Reg No 1989/2003) [19], the Codex Alimentarius Norm (Codex Alimentarius Commission Draft, 2013) [49], and International Olive Oil Council (lOOC) Trade standards (IOOC/T.15/NC n° 3/Rev.4, 2011) [50], give a particular importance to chromatographic techniques for the analysis of VOO composition in order to detect some fraudulent mixtures. Therefore, for a long time, several HPLC methods have been developed to detect the illegal addition of other oils, including the use of tocopherols, carotenoids, and chlorophylls in various research works to detect adulteration of VOO [51,52],...

The Codex Alimentarius Commission, in its Draft Provisional Standard34 (following definition and description, and subsidiary definitions and designations) has laid down certain compositional criteria. It is obvious that all definitions of honey so far discussed deal with two chemically and physically distinct commodities namely, nectar honey and honeydew honey. A comparison between the two shows that honeydew honey is lower in D-fructose and D-glucose and higher in pH, oligosaccharides, acidic components, ash, and nitrogen than nectar honey.

The subsequent lUPAC/ISO/AOAC Symposium on Single Laboratory Validation, held in Budapest, November 4-5, 1999, resulted in the draft working paper that, after international review and comment, was adopted as a harmonized guideline and published by lUPAC in 2002. On the international level the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Hlava-cek, 1981 Wessels, 1981) has a draft standard for "Edible low erucic acid rapeseed oil" at step 8 of the Codex Procedure. This standard is reproduced in the version available in early 1982 (Appendix II) and is not the final standard.

In the meantime, international agreement on standards for food irradiation is being sought through the Codex Alimentarius Commission at the UN. A document with the title Draft General Standard for Irradiated Foods and a Draft Code of Practice for the Operation of Radiation Facilities used for the Treatment of Foods , has already been considered by the appropriate committee and moved successfully through many stages of approval prior to submission to the Commission itself with a view to adoption as a recommended standard.
