Coatings metal maintenance

Uralkyds have superior adhesion, hardness, abrasion resistance, durabiHty, and chemical resistance to the unmodified alkyds. They find appHcations in wood floor finishes, marine coatings, metal primers, and maintenance paints. [Pg.42]

Although the initial choice of coating material applied for reasons (b) or (c) may be dictated by the particular properties required, the corrosion behaviour of the composite metal coating/metal substrate system must also be taken into consideration in so far as it may affect the maintenance of the desired properties. Consequently, in all cases where protective metal coatings are used the corrosion performance of both coating and substrate require careful consideration. [Pg.449]

For the analysis of clear organic coatings, in particular on metal, placing the SI analyser in a position where it records the specularly reflected radiation - attenuated by two transmissions through the material to be analysed - is preferable. As the metal under the coating acts as mirror reflector, such systems have high reliability and low maintenance requirements, provided the reflection properties of the coated metal remain reasonably constant. [Pg.162]

The low odor and evaporation rates as well as good substrate wetting of Exxsol D40 and D60 are features which make them useful solvents for architectural coatings, OME, and automotive refmish coatings, industrial metal and wood coatings, and maintenance and marine coatings. The solvents also have higher OELs (e.g., 300 ppm) as compared to mineral spirits (OEL = 100 ppm). [Pg.245]

Tests of the bare, unprotected metal are useful to establish a minimum basis of performance and comparative ranking. However, the applicability to the end use and prediction of service life require evaluation of the protective coatings and maintenance procedures to be used in service. [Pg.547]

In the original Battelle study, almost 40 percent of 1975 metallic corrosion costs were attributed to the production, use, and maintenance of motor vehicles. No other sector accoimted for as much as 4 percent of the total, and most sectors contributed less than 1 percent. The 1995 Battelle study indicated that the motor vehicles sector probably had made the greatest anticorrosion effort of any single industry. Advances have been made in the use of stainless steels, coated metals, and more protective finishes. Moreover, several substitutions of materials made primarily for reasons of weight reduction have also reduced corrosion. Also, the panel estimated that 15 percent of previously unavoidable corrosion costs can be reclassified as avoidable. The industry is estimated to have eliminated some 35 percent of its avoidable corrosion by its improved practices. Table I.l summarizes the costs attributed to metallic corrosion in the United States in these two studies. [Pg.2]
