Coating with high corrosion resistance

Applications Electrodeposition of cationic paint resin on automobiles (connected to the cathode) provides a uniform, defect-free coating with high corrosion resistance, but carries with it about 50 percent excess paint that must be washed off. UF is used to maintain the paint concentration in the paint bath while generating a permeate that is used for washing. The spent wash is fed back into the paint path (Zeman et al., Microjiltration and UltrajUtration, Marcel Dekker, New York, 1996).

The aluminium coatings are highly corrosion resistant, and are less liable to contact corrosion than cadmium when in contact with light alloys. They can also be used at temperatures of up to 496°C as against 232°C for cadmium. The aluminium coating is also unaffected by aviation fuels, unlike cadmium. 

Many high-temperature alloy components with insufficient resistance to corrosion in hot gases, e.g. in gas turbines, are coated with a corrosion resistant surface...

The diffusion coatings on metals basis for improvement the corrosion resistance of steels have a wide industrial ap>plication. The main aim of the thermochemical treatment in this case is to form on the steel surface a layer from metals with high corrosion resistance, their solid solution in the metal matrix, or their compounds. The metals that are usually used for this thermochemical treatment are chromium, aluminium and zinc. 

The bluish white, hard, yet ductile, metal is inert to all acids and highly non-abrasive. Used for heavy-duty parts in electrical contacts and spinning jets. Reflectors are prepared from the mirror-smooth surfaces (e.g. head mirrors in medicine). Thin coatings provide a corrosion-resistant protective layer, for example, for jewelry, watches, and spectacle frames. The metal is a constituent of three-way catalysts. Rhodium complexes are used with great success in carbonylations (reactions with CO) and oxidations (nitric acid) in industry. Platinum-rhodium alloys are suitable thermocouples. 

The metallurgy selected for construction of a firewater pump is dependent on the properties of the water source to be used. For fresh water sources (i.e., public water mains), cast iron is normally adequate although bronze internals may be optional. Brackish or sea water utilization will require the use of highly corrosion resistance materials and possibly coatings. Typically specified metals include alloy bronze, monnel, ni-resistant, or duplex stainless steels sometime combined with a corrosion resistant paint or specialized coating. 

Chemical vapor deposition is not restricted to the microelectronics industry. It is the key process in the fabrication of optical fibers where it enables grading of the refractive index as a function of the radial position in the fiber (JO. In the manufacturing industry the technique provides coatings with special properties such as high hardness, low friction, and high corrosion resistance. Examples of CVD reactions and processes are given in Table 1.
