Composite types

The third type of propellent explosive, the composite type, is a more recent development, the purpose of which is to provide rocket propellants of increased thrust, compared with the ordinary varieties. Composite propellants are based on an oxidising solid, commonly a perchlorate, together with an organic binder which both acts as fuel and gives adequate mechanical strength to the mixture. Binding of C02 takes place in aqueous medium by the carboxylation reaction of ribulose-diphosphate (RuDP) with the formation of 3-phospho-glycerine acid (PGA) - table 5. Water molecule and radical C=0 at the distances of molecular interaction have quite similar values of PE-parameters for forming the general structural grouping of dimeric composite type. Total PE-parameter of water molecule and radical C=0 hearly equals PE-parameter of C02 and therefore the molecules of C02 and H20 join RuBP with the formation of two radicals COOH b PGA (table 5). In ferment RuDP- carboxylase, Mg atoms and 0" ions (5.4867 eV and 4.755 eV) play an active role, their PE-parameters similar to PE-parameter of radical COOH. [Pg.99]

Table 6.9 shows the enhancement ratios for aramid fibres versus glass fibres used in the same composite type. The enhancement ratios are the ratios of a property for an aramid fibre reinforced composite versus the same property for the glass fibre reinforced composite. [Pg.797]

Lime juice like lemon juice is of less economic value that its peel and essence oils. There are two major cultivars which are responsible for the bulk of lime oil, namely Persian limes and Mexican or Key limes. Mexican or Key lime oils are further separated into two separate classes, type A and type B, depending on how they are prepared. The method of preparation makes a profound difference in their composition. Type A is produced by pricking the peel surface on a needled surface and washing off the oil with water. The water and oil are separated as discussed in Sect. 6.3.1. Type B oil is produced from the distillation of the crushed fruit.
