Closures costs

Finding 9. Cost containment efforts in the closure of JACADS are fragmented and have been inhibited by the absence of a total project cost baseline estimate for the Army and all contractors supporting closure activities. A multiyear program cost estimate and schedule that encompasses all closure costs is essential for the cost-effective completion of the JACADS closure campaign. Costs will probably change as the closure project evolves. [Pg.25]

Closure costs for existing plants incurred at a site are again determined in two steps. Plant closure costs are calculated in equation (3.14) which, in combination with the non-negativity constraint (3.57), ensures that no negative closure costs are calculated. Closure costs are allocated to the time period during which the capacity is decommissioned. To account for lead times in closure decisions no plant closures can occur in the first period of the planning horizon. Equation (3.15) aggregates the closure costs to the site level. [Pg.98]

Recommendation 4-2. The Chemical Materials Agency should develop appropriate analytical methods for establishing agent levels in porous materials and have them certified at the earliest possible time as a means of minimizing closure costs. [Pg.23]

The economic importance of an ore deposit itself is largely affected by mineral or metal prices. Mine closures and reopenings are a common event in the mineral iadustry for this reason. Economics can also be affected by the ore composition, for example, by unacceptable levels of penalty elements ia the ore. The assessment of overall economics of exploiting a given ore deposit is similar to that for any large-scale industry. The various cost components are those associated with equipment, labor, utiUties, contingencies, operation and production, transportation, working capital, suppHes, maintenance. [Pg.395]

Alkylphenols can be synthesized by several approaches, including alkylation of a phenol, hydroxylation of an alkylbenzene, dehydrogenation of an alkylcyclohexanol, or ring closure of an appropriately substituted acycHc compound. The choice of approach depends on the target alkylphenol, availabihty of the starting materials, and cost of processing. The procedures discussed herein encompass commercial methods, general methods, and a few specific examples of commercial interest. [Pg.58]

Measurements and Audits. The enabling element of continuous improvement is measurement. An old rule of thumb says that increased accuracy in measuring an energy use ultimately yields a reduction in use equal to 10% of the increased closure of the balance. A basic principle of economics is that any thing that is free is used in excess, ie, an unmetered electrical use is bigger than expected by at least 10%. Metering of the cost elements at each unit in a chemical plant provides effective accountabhity. Measurements should be linked via computer software to production as weh as to weather to result in maximum feedback. [Pg.230]

Closure at the instant of reversal of flow is most nearly attained in these valves. This timing of closure is not the whole solution to noise and shock at check valves. For example, if cessation of pressure at the inlet of a valve produces flashing of the decelerating stream downstream from the valve or if stoppage of flow is caused By a sudden closure of a valve some distance downstream from the check valve and the stoppage is followed by returning water hammer, slower closure may be necessary. For these applications, tilting-disk check valves are equipped with external dashpots. They are also available with low-cost insert Dodies. [Pg.970]

Final Transactional Closure and Reconciliation of Materials and Costs Termination procedures should outline who will have responsibility for assuring residual activities, material shipments, and processing has ceased. It is wise for both parties to confirm that this last step is complete. Normally, residual service activities and material supply ceases once the final invoice has been generated. [Pg.134]

In terms of cost, the effectiveness of the catalytic cycle in the ring closure makes this process economical in palladium. The first three steps in the reaction sequence -- ring opening of an epoxide by a Grignard reagent, converison of an alcohol to an amine with inversion, and sulfonamide formation from the amine — are all standard synthetic processes. [Pg.55]

Interim measures may be separate from the comprehensive Corrective Action plan but should be consistent with, and integrated with, any longer-term Corrective Action (e.g., corrective measure through an order, an op erating permit, a post-closure permit or interim status closure requirements). To the extent possible, interim measures should not seriously complicate the ultimate physical management of hazardous wastes or constituents, nor should they present or exacerbate a health or environmental threat. Interim measures may add additional costs or work to the comprehensive Corrective Action. Such added costs or work do not preclude implementation of an interim measure. [Pg.114]

Integral equations provide a satisfactory formalism for the study of homogeneous and inhomogeneous fluids. If the usual OZ equation is used, the best results are obtained from semiempirical closures such as the MV and DHH closures. However, this empirical element can be avoided by using integral equations that involve higher-order distribution functions, but at the cost of some computational complexity. [Pg.162]

The cost of maintenance may be greatly influenced by the disruption caused by the access requirements. This involves not only direct costs such as scaffolding but indirect ones such as disruption of a process plant, closure of roads, protection of plant and equipment in the vicinity, etc. [Pg.136]
