Clindamycin gel

Ferris DG, Litaker MS, Woodward L, Mathis D, Hendrich J Treatment ofbacterial vaginosis A comparison of oral metronidazole, metronidazole vaginal gel and clindamycin vaginal cream. J Fam Pract 1995 41 443-449. [Pg.129]

In mild-to-moderate acne topical treatment such as benzoyl peroxide (Ponoxyl gel) is usually recommended, followed by clindamycin (Dalacin capsules). Rooccutone capsules, which contain isotretinoin, ore reserved for more severe cases of acne. [Pg.172]

Aloe vera gel enhanced the antiacne properties of Ocimum gratissimum L. oil the oil or its combination with Aloe vera gel was more effective than 1% clindamycin in the treatment oiAcne vulgaris [399]. Linalool-rich EO was potent against promastigotes and amastigotes oiLeishmania amazonensis [400]. [Pg.102]

CLEOCIN T topical solution and CLEOCIN T topical lotion contain clindamycin phosphate at a concentration equivalent to 10 mg clindamycin per milliliter. CLEOCIN T topical gel contains clindamycin phosphate at a concentration equivalent to 10 mg clindamycin per gram. Each CLEOCIN T topical solution pledget applicator contains... [Pg.107]

In traditional electrophoresis, separation efficiency is limited by thermal diffusion and convection. Owing to long analysis times and low efficiencies, these procedures never enjoyed wide usage. Problems have arisen when trying to differentiate between structurally related drug residues such as streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin, tetracyclines, lincomycin and clindamycin, and erythromycin and oleandomycin (83, 84). To overcome these problems, anticonvective media, such as polyacrylamide or agarose gels, have also been used. [Pg.679]

Clindamycin has in vitro activity against Propionibacterium acnes this has been postulated as the mechanism of its beneficial effect in acne therapy. Approximately 10% of an applied dose is absorbed, and rare cases of bloody diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis have been reported following topical application. The hydroalcoholic vehicle may cause drying and irritation of the skin, with complaints of burning and stinging. The water-based gel and lotion formulations are well tolerated and less likely to cause irritation. Allergic contact dermatitis is uncommon. Clindamycin is also available in a fixed-combination topical gel with benzoyl peroxide (BenzaClin). [Pg.1444]

Leyden JJ, Berger RS, Dunlap FE, Ellis CN, Connolly MA, Levy SF. Comparison of the efficacy and safety of a combination topical gel formulation of benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin and vehicle gel... [Pg.2067]

Weiss JW, Shavin J, Davis M. Preliminary results of a non-randomized, multicenter, open-label study of patient satisfaction after treatment with combination benzoyl peroxide/ clindamycin topical gel for mild to moderate acne. Chn Ther 2002 24(10) 1706-17. [Pg.2068]

Topical clindamycin inhibits P. acnes and provides comedolytic as well as anti-inflammatory activity. It is available in gel, lotion, solution, and disposable pad formulations, and is usually applied twice daily. Combination with BPO increases efficacy. Though rare, diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis may occur secondary to topical clindamycin. ... [Pg.1760]

Esterifying the 2-hydroxy function with palmitoyl chloride gave the insoluble—and tasteless—plamitate as a pro-drug used in pediatric suspension. Ready in vivo hydrolysis of the ester released the active drug following rapid absorption. Injectable dosage forms contain the soluble clindamycin-2-phosphate so does a topical solution and gel. [Pg.261]

Clindamycin phosphate is a water-soluble ester of the semisynthetic antibiotic produced by a 7(S)-chloro- substitution of the 7(R)-hydroxyl group of the parent antibiotic lincomycin. Chemically, clindamycin phosphate is (C18H34CIN208PS). The topical gel also contains benzoyl... [Pg.135]

Resistant strains of P. acnes are emerging that may respond to jndicions nse of retinoids in combination with antibiotics. Commonly nsed topical antimicrobials in acne inclnde erythromycin, clindamycin (Cleocin-t), and benzoyl peroxide and antibiotic-benzoyl peroxide combinations (Benzamycin, Benzaclin, others). Other antimiaobials nsed in treating acne inclnde sulfacetamide (Klaron), sulfacetamide/sulfur combinations (Snlfacet-R), metronidawie (Metrocream, Metro-Gel, noritate), and azelaic acid (Azelex). Systemic therapy is prescribed for patients with more extensive disease and acne that is resistant to topical therapy. Effective agents inclnde tetracycline (snmycin, others), minocycline (MINO-CIN, others), erythromycin (ERYC, others), clindamycin (CLEOCIN), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (bactrim, others). Antibiotics nsnally are administered twice daily, and doses are tapered after control is achieved. [Pg.104]

Clindamycin also is available as a topical solution, gel, or lotion (cleocin t, others) and as a vaginal cream (cleocin). It is effective topically (or orally) for acne vulgaris and bacterial vaginosis. [Pg.778]
