J. M. Clinch, Study of Reduction of Glare, Reflection Heat and Noise Transfer in Air Traffic Control Tower Cab Glass, FAA-RD-72-65, AD747069, NTIS, Springfield, Va., 1972. [Pg.529]

The United States continued fast-breeder reactor research and development with the building of the fast flux test faciHty (FFTF) at Hanford and the SEFOR reactor in Arkansas (59). The next plaimed step was to build a prototype power reactor, the Clinch River fast-breeder plant (CRFBP), which was to be located near Oak Ridge, Teimessee. [Pg.221]

A fairly detailed risk analysis of fires was in the Clinch River Breeder Reactor (CRBR) Risk Assessment Study, 1977. In this study, FMEA was used to identify important fire locations for a wide variety of combustibles, including cables, oil, and sodium. The resulting estimate of the frequency of fire-induced core melt, 5E-7 per reactor-year, is substantially below the estimates discussed above. [Pg.196]

Clinch River Breeder Reactor Project, the first large-scale demonstration breeder reactor is constructed near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The project died for lack of support, however. [Pg.1241]

It is our experience that to the first question, the most common student response is something akin to Because my teacher told me so . One is tempted to say that it is a pity that the scientific belief of so mat r students is sourced from an authority, rather than from empirical evidence - except that when chemists are asked question (ii), they find it not at all easy to answer. There is, after all, no single defining experiment that conclusively proves the claim, even though it was the phenomenon of Brownian motion that finally seems to have clinched the day for the atomists 150 or so years ago. Of course, from atomic forced microscopy (AFM), we see pictures of gold atoms being manipulated one by one - but the output from AFM is itself the result of application of interpretive models. [Pg.15]

I say it s a break for us. If he goes on in the same vein tomorrow. Book 89 is worth double what it was before, because it will clinch the facts we ve proved many times over, in good summary form. To hell with the construction reports. What do you fellows think about waiving all cross-examination of Ambros "... [Pg.181]

Salicylate or aspirin overdose is characterized by tinnitus, confusion, rapid pulse rate, and increased respiration. The decreased partial pressure of arterial C02 (Pco2) plus increased fixed acids first cause alkalosis, which is followed by metabolic acidosis, dehydration, and loss of fixed bases. The picture may resemble diabetic acidosis, but the history of salicylate ingestion and blood salicylate levels above. 540 mg/100 mL clinch the diagnosis. [Pg.280]

But many people talk emotionally of radioactivity because radioactive materials are so poisonous , and one of the clinching arguments given to explain why radioactivity is undesirable is that radioactive materials have long half-lives . What is a half-life And why is this facet of their behaviour important And, for that matter, is it true that radioactive materials are poisonous ... [Pg.378]

There is still no consensus for a mechanism for the high Tc in the cuprate superconductors. Nonetheless, we have learned much about the electronic structure of such materials. Some proposed theories may now be discarded. The discovery of the n-type cuprate superconductors was the clinching evidence needed to discard theories based on some unique feature of an oxygen 2p band, a x band, or overlapping bands. The central question now for the cuprate... [Pg.731]

After removing objections, further closing attempts can be made from the direct close, Would you like to buy this today to the somewhat sneaky assumptive close, Would you like it in red or in blue In this way, the persuader can work from open-ended, information-gathering questions, to more specific needs-defining questions, to the closing questions that clinch the deal. [Pg.98]
