Clarifiers screen

After acid removal, scrap batteries are fed to a hammer mill in which they are ground to <5 cm particles. The ground components are fed to a conveyor and passed by a magnet to remove undesirable contamination. The lead scrap is then classified on a wet screen through which fine particles of lead sulfate and lead oxide pass, and the large oversize soHd particles are passed on to a hydrodynamic separator. The fine particles are settled to a thick slurry and the clarified washwater recirculated to the wet screen. [Pg.49]

Suspended Solids Removal. Depending on the concentration and characteristics of the suspended soflds, they can be removed by filtration, flotation, or sedimentation. Coarse soflds are removed by screening. Settleable suspended soflds are removed in a clarifier, which may be circular or rectangular. The efficiency of soflds removal is a function of the overflow rate (m /-d (gal/ft -d) as shown in Figure 5. [Pg.182]

Ptdp) filtei. s. These filters employ one or more packs of filtermasse (cellulose fibers compressed to a compact cylinder) stacked into a pressure case. The packs are sometimes supported in individual trays which provide drainage channels and sometimes rest on one another with a loose spacer plate between each two packs and with a drainage screen buried in the center of each pack. The liquid being clarified flows under a pressure of 345 kPa (50 psig) or less through the pulp packs and into a drainage manifold. Flow rates are somewhat less than for disk filters, on the order of 20 L/(min-m ) [0.5 gal/ (min-ft")]. Pulp filters are used chiefly to polish beverages. The filtermasse may be washed in special washers and re-formed into new cakes. [Pg.1719]

Plate pr esses. Sometimes called sheet filters, these are assemblies of plates, sheets of filter media, and sometimes screens or frames. Thev are essentially modified filter presses with practically no cakeholding capacity. A press may consist of many plates or of a single filter sheet between two plates, the plates may be rectangular or circular, and the sheets may lie in a horizontal or vertical plane. The operation is similar to that of a filter press, and the flow rates are about the same as for disk filters. The operating pressure usually does not exceed 138 kPa (20 psig). The presses are used most frequently for low-viscosity liqmds, but an ordinaiy filter press with thin frames is commonly used as a clarifier for 100-Pa s (1000-P) rayon-spinning solution. Here the filtration pressure may be 6900 kPa (1000 psig). [Pg.1719]

Water Clarification. Process water that needs to be clarified comes from several different sources in the recycling mill rejects from screens and mechanical cleaners rejects from washers, thickeners, and flotation cells water that drains from the pulp as it is converted into paper on the paper machine (white water) and water from felt washers. These waters contain different dissolved chemicals and suspended solids and are usually processed separately. [Pg.9]

Zinc sulfate has been used as a mordant in calico printing for preserving wood and skins for the manufacture of other zinc salts for clarifying glue and in electrodeposition processes. The sulfide is used as a pigment and as a source of other pigments ZnS is used in X-ray and television screens and, with a trace of a radium or mesothorium salt, in luminous dials of watches. Although there are papers that discuss the relationships between cholesterol, lipid profiles, and major depression [34-39], there are few data that discuss the association between lipid profiles and depressive disorders with different phenotypes. Huang and Chen investigated the correlation between serum lipid, lipoprotein concentration, and major depressive disorder in patients evaluated for general health screening [41]. They found that analysis of covariance after age adjustment revealed significant differences in patients with melancholic feature and patients with atypical feature in serum concentrations of TG and VLDL in men and HDL in women [41]. However, there are still no reports that discuss the relationships between lipid profiles and major depression with postpartum onset or catatonic feature. In the future, large sample numbers will be needed to clarify the clinical differences in this field. [Pg.95]

An uncertainty analysis gives the assessor the opportunity to re-evaluate the scenario, model approaches and parameters of the analysis and to consider their influence in the overall analysis. The practical impact of uncertainty analysis is illustrated within the annexed case-studies, which also clarify how uncertainty analyses follow a systematic methodology, based on a tiered approach, and consider all possible sources of uncertainty. The first step in uncertainty analysis consists of a screening, followed by a qualitative analysis and two levels of quantitative analysis, using deterministic and probabilistic data. The assessor should be aware that an uncertainty analysis cannot answer all the questions, which, moreover, may lead to new questions. [Pg.84]
