Circumference

First, the plane n(x,y) coincides with the diffuser mean plane of G, IT (x ,y ). When G is translated a distance x and rotated an angle Aa respect to the y axis of Il (x ,y ), we ob-a null movement of the speckle pattern on a circumference of center C and radius R ... [Pg.657]

From equation (1), we can to observe if the movement is axial the circumference always contained the point (0,0). If the movement is transversal (Eq. 2), the point (0,0) does not belong to the circumference. Therefore, measuring C and R, it is possible to determine the magnitude and direction of the translation. [Pg.657]

The new speekle pattern is stored and subtraeted pixel by pixel with the first one. Then, at the PC screen it can be observed the null displacement circumference (Figure 2). [Pg.658]

Due to the outer circumference of the silo, about 25 meters, a non- or rarely destructive testing method was needed for the localization. Because the building was still in use, it was only accessable from the exterior side. We chose the ultrasonic pulse-echo-technique as an appropriate way of doing the testing. [Pg.754]

Subsequently, we suspected the duct s grid system to be positioned at 3,60m. We, therefore, concentrated our tests on these areas. At all new positions tested elear echo-signals were found (see Scans in Fig. 8). This resulted in 7 ducts localized around the circumference. In most cases the drilling instantly hit the duets, heneeforth all duets were found. [Pg.757]

Evaluation and calibration. A piece of tube was rotated around its own axis during four channel wall thickness mea.surements (Figure 7). The four traces are not identical A rotation apart as should be expected. The calibrations of the four equipment s from the manufacture was not the same. Especially one of the traces has less dynamic than the other three. Based on these observations a dynamic calibration system was suggested using a tube, which could be rotated around its own axis in the measuring system. The values should be verified using traditional mechanical measurement around the tube circumference. The prototype system was permanently installed in the workshop at the production hall. Experimental work was more difficult under such circumstances so our participation in the development work stopped. [Pg.901]

Wastage all around the tube is seldom seen near the tube sheet in recovery boilers. Figure 9 shows a sean of a tube that has gradual thinning around the full circumference of the tube with the wastage stopping at the tube sheet. [Pg.1037]

This is exact—see Problem 11-8. Notice that Eq. 11-14 is exactly what one would write, assuming the meniscus to be hanging from the wall of the capillary and its weight to be supported by the vertical component of the surface tension, 7 cos 6, multiplied by the circumference of the capillary cross section, 2ar. Thus, once again, the mathematical identity of the concepts of surface tension and surface free energy is observed. [Pg.13]

Here again, the older concept of surface tension appears since Eq. 11-22 is best understood in terms of the argument that the maximum force available to support the weight of the drop is given by the surface tension force per centimeter times the circumference of the tip. [Pg.20]

The cycle of oscillation is 0 to 2n, precisely the circumference of a circle. After one cycle of 2n radians is complete, another cycle begins, identical to the one before it. The angular frequency in radians co is related to the frequency expressed in units of complete cycles per second v as co = 2nv, whence... [Pg.94]

When the adsorbent has been introduced into the tube, the latter is fitted into a filter flask (see Fig. 77, 46, 2) to which a pump is attached the pump is run slowly and the column is again pressed down gently with the wooden pestle. The circumference of the upper surface is gently and uniformly tapped, especially where it is in contact with the glass surface, for about one minute air bubbles and channels are thus avoided when the solution is poured in. Some workers place a loose plug of cotton wool or a circle of filter paper at the top of the column in order to protect the solid from disturbance when the liquid is introduced. [Pg.160]

Since the radial acceleration functions simply as an amplified gravitational acceleration, the particles settle toward the bottom -that is, toward the circumference of the rotor-if the particle density is greater than that of the supporting medium. A distance r from the axis of rotation, the radial acceleration is given by co r, where co is the angular velocity in radians per second. The midpoint of an ultracentrifuge cell is typically about 6.5 cm from the axis of rotation, so at 10,000, 20,000, and 40,000 rpm, respectively, the accelerations are 7.13 X 10, 2.85 X 10 , and 1.14 X 10 m sec" or 7.27 X 10, 2.91 X 10, and 1.16 X 10 times the acceleration of gravity (g s). [Pg.635]

Now that the wave and particle pictures were reconciled it became clear why the electron in the hydrogen atom may be only in particular orbits with angular momentum given by Equation (1.8). In the wave picture the circumference 2nr of an orbit of radius r must contain an integral number of wavelengths... [Pg.7]

In most rotary dmm filters, the submergence of the dmm is usually about one-third of its circumference. Greater submergence is achieved in units equipped with submerged bearings, although this is more cosdy. [Pg.397]

Launched ia 1959, N. A. Savannah operated very weU. Starting ia 1962, it made a goodwill voyage around the world. It was able to travel a distance of several times the earth s circumference on one fuel loading. However, the ship was not competitive economically with oil-powered merchant ships. The shielding was quite adequate, so that the reactor was safe. Nonetheless the vessel was opposed by antinuclear groups and the N.A. Savannah was eventually retired and put on display ia Charleston, South Carolina. In 1994, the ship was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, to be held ia reserve. [Pg.223]

The disk refiner, a newer development used for fine paper grades, includes one or two rotary disks and two or four working surfaces. The surfaces are pressed together uniformly by hydraulic pressure and guided by high precision, heavy-duty bearing systems. Stock usuaUy is fed through the center of one plate and leaves between the plates at their circumferences. [Pg.4]

Radial density gradients in FCC and other large-diameter pneumatic transfer risers reflect gas—soHd maldistributions and reduce product yields. Cold-flow units are used to measure the transverse catalyst profiles as functions of gas velocity, catalyst flux, and inlet design. Impacts of measured flow distributions have been evaluated using a simple four lump kinetic model and assuming dispersed catalyst clusters where all the reactions are assumed to occur coupled with a continuous gas phase. A 3 wt % conversion advantage is determined for injection feed around the riser circumference as compared with an axial injection design (28). [Pg.513]
