Chain worry

Destructive worry can lead to compulsive overparenting where parents drive themselves and their only child crazy with excessive needs for control. Parents can chain worry "If you flunk this class then maybe you ll flunk others, then maybe you ll drop out of school, and then maybe you ll end up living on the street " Parents can ask crazy questions (questions for which there are no answers) "How do you know for sure you won t get hit by a drunk driver and get killed " Parents can obsessively control "You re not... 

Commercial end functional polymers have been converted to alkoxyamincs and used to prepare PKO-Worri-PS.040 The hydroxyl group of alkoxyamine 284 was used to initiate ring-opening polymerization of caprolactonc catalyzed by aluminum tris(isopropoxide) and the product subsequently was used to initiate S polymerization by NMP thus forming polycaprolactone-Wodr- P8.641 The alternate strategy of forming PS by NMP and using the hydroxyl chain end of the product to initiate polymerization of caprolactonc was also used. 

If the conclusion seems to be in error, and the chain of reasoning is valid, we have then demonstrated that one (or more) of our initial assumptions must be erroneous. For example, if one of the premises was the implication If a ketone is present then the compound is an alkane , then the conclusion that would follow from the observation a ketone is present would be obviously false. Since the PC is logically correct (in fact defines logically correct ) any erroneous conclusions must arise from an erroneous axiom, and cannot be the fault of the calculating procedure used. This allows us to focus our attention on the assumptions and frees us from having to worry about the procedure.

A strange disease was reported in the area around Minamata Bay in Japan. Forty-six people died and many more became ill. The illness was due to mercury poisoning from a plastics factory. The Chisso Corporation used mercury as a catalyst in making acetaldehyde. Dimethylmercury becomes concentrated up the food chain and the heavy reliance on food from the sea life in the bay caused the epidemic. Mercury became a source of worry in many U.S. rivers and has been monitored closely since then. Chisso was finally found guilty in 1973, and 300 people had died by 1980. 

High mercury levels in terminal food chain predators hke tuna fish have caused considerable worry. It has been found that tuna contain larger than average amounts of selenium.1- 10 Discuss the possible role of selenium with respect to the presence of mercury. ... 

This automated system should also permit examiners to transmit the information contained in the rifling markings on a bullet or the impressions of the breech of a firearm that appear on the head of a discharged shell to examiners in other localities, rapidly and accurately, without the worry of preserving the continuity of the chain of evidence that becomes our primary concern when transporting evidence and firearms. 

The fact that the substituents on the side chains can control the conformation of the spiroketal centre means that it is not necessary to worry about that centre in a synthesis, provided you are trying to make the spiroketal that has the double anomeric stabilization (both oxygens axial) and that has any substituents equatorial on the rings. If all we had to worry about was transitions between two different bond conformational states, say trans and gauche (so that there would be more trans conformations as the chain was stretched out), and if the rotations of all the bonds were independent of one another, then the conformational relaxation process we have described here could be described in terms of a single relaxation time t1 (top of Figure 13-84). But in real polymer materials there is a whole range or spectrum of time-dependent rearrangements. 

Although the level of DDD used was low, it accumulated in organisms, each animal in the food chain gaining higher levels, until the animal at the top of the chain, the final predator, acquired levels that were lethal. This worried scientists when it was discovered. The same phenomenon applies to DDT. These examples illustrate what happens when excessive or even just larger than necessary amounts are used. There was already mounting public concern when, in 1963, Rachel Carson s book Silent Spring was published, which documented these occurrences and laid the blame on DDT. It had an enormous impact and the eventual result was that DDT was banned in many countries. 

The cosmetics industry is another chemical chooser ripe for change. The European Union amended its Cosmetics Directive in January 2003 to outlaw carcinogens, mutagens, and reproductive toxicants in cosmetics. Member states of the European Union are required to comply by September 2004.71 Not only will companies marketing cosmetics in Europe need to change formulations, but companies marketing cosmetics in the United States will either need to follow suit or argue to American women that they need not worry about the risks from such chemicals. These and other such choices will flow down the supply chain to chemical producers. 

The first disconnection lib (reductive amination) takes no consideration of the chirality at all - we will worry about this later. We already have a six membered ring and it now contains all the chirality. The introduction of double bonds by FGA is used to considerable effect in this retro-synthesis. The first new alkene allows us to do an aldol disconnection 13 that not only removes a carbon chain but also reveals an electron-withdrawing group on the six-membered ring 14. This is, of course, one vital component of the Diels-Alder reaction. The next FGA puts in the double bond that allows us to do the retrosynthetic Diels-Alder step 15. 

Thus both the need and the desire to carry polymeric chemicals one or more steps further in the industrial chain has opened new areas for market development activity. I look for even broader horizons in this direction in the 1970 s. From dealing with products essentially chemical in nature, market development is now concerned with fabricated products up to and including those sold to the public consumer. Questions of product design and aesthetic appeal now plague the market development son whose father, only a few short years ago, worried only about product reactivity and purity.
