Chain of command

In recruiting facility managers for the pilot test, be sensitive to your company s chain of command—and the preferences of the individuals involved. In most organizations facility managers report up the line. In some companies a request for this kind of assistance must be cleared at a higher level in others, facility managers have considerable autonomy and do not take kindly to its being underestimated. 

Review by supervisory body Dmg regulatory legislation normally specifies the official chain of command and the supervisory body to which the DRA must report. Administrative and legislative supervision is an important means of accountability if properly applied. However, supervision should not be used as a means of political influence over legitimate regulatory decisions. 

Industrial scientists, therefore, hold a very high public trust. There is a need to go beyond the requirements of scientific canons and demonstrate to the lay public that its trust has been upheld. A number of industrial firms have recognized and responded to this need. Since the analytical laboratory is a principal referee in the production process, there is always a risk that time pressures will tempt some members of the production team to "work the referee". An important function of the chain of command of the analytical laboratory, therefore, is establishing a clear operational policy to ensure that any such pressure does not reach the bench level ... 

The keystone of managing chemical reactivity hazards is line responsibility. The "line" referred to here is the chain of command and authority that extends from the operator to the chief executive officer of the company. When all the advice and consultation is gathered relative to an issue, such as from relevant area experts and safety personnel, it is the business responsibility to provide leadership. It does so by communicating values, setting policy, making appropriate decisions, allocating the necessary resources, and following up to ensure implementation. 

Develop clear protocols and chains-of-command for reporting and responding to threats along with relevant emergency, law enforcement, environmental, and public health officials, consumers, and the media. Practice the emergency protocols regularly.

During most emergencies, it will be necessary to quickly notify a variety of parties both internal and external to the chemical plant. Using the Chain-of-Command Chart and all appropriate personnel from the lists below, indicate who activates the plan, the order in which notification occurs, and the members of the emergency response team. All contact information should be available for routine updating and readily available. The following lists are not intended to be all inclusive—they should be adapted to your specific needs. 

Many jurisdictions, but not all, require that you live nearby or in the jurisdiction. Some fire departments give preference to otherwise qualified veterans over civilians. This may take the form of a policy, sometimes called a Veteran s Preference policy, whereby points are automatically added to the written exam. Is this unfair No. Fire companies are a lot like military units. They follow a strict chain of command, and firefighters on the line work as a team, knowing that their lives are in each other s hands. Military personnel have learned the discipline and teamwork that are vital to firefighting and emergency services, making them very well qualified. 

Quality assurance personnel must have the appropriate training, experience, familiarization with the manufacturing facility and products, enforced independence from the production chain of command, and the ability to review adherence to procedures, policies, and agreed-upon approaches to manufacturing quality pharmaceuticals. This helps to provide both an environment and a manufactured product that can withstand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection and support a firm s reputation for quality products. 

This type of model selection is prima facie evidence of Synthesis Team bias in favor of models that produced very lurid results. That no balancing models were used simply means that no balance was ever intended in the USNA, or, rather, that the USNA reflects the lack of balance evident in the Synthesis Team, itself created by a highly convoluted and clearly political chain of command.

Vertical differentiation refers to the depth of the organizational hierarchy.
