Central filter

Horizontal Rotating Pan Filters. These filters (Fig. 10) represent a further development of the tipping pan filter for continuous operation. They consist of a circular pan rotating around the central filter valve. The pan is divided into wedge-shaped sections covered with the filter medium. Vacuum is appHed from below. Each section is provided with a drainage pipe which connects to a rotary filter valve of the same type as in dmm filters. [Pg.395]

Filtration can be applied in all stages of the process in a central filter in the polymer melt line, or at the end of the line, in the spinning assembly. Coalescing filters require an air velocity within specified limits if they are to operate efficiently. If the total volume of system air does not require filtration to the same level of cleanliness, it will be more economical overall (i.e. capital plus running costs) to install individual filters either at the point of use, or in branch lines downstream of a T point. Air flows through these local filters will be lower than through a central filter system, allowing the use of smaller housings and extending the service life of the elements. [Pg.430]

By choosing the proper correlation algorithm, it is possible to realise sensitive filters for other types of defects (e.g. corrosion). A similar apparatus, but without the advantage of the central ground joint is marketed under the name Buechner stable filter f (Fig. 11,35, 2, a) one method of use is shown in Fig. II, 35, 2, b. The Buechner stable filter is made of porcelain the filtrate is drawn off through a vacuum chamber below the perforated plate, the whole apparatus is supported by a cylindrical base, and sits firmly on the bench. A hexapole assembly of rods (poles) is built similarly to the quadrupole, but now there are three sets of opposed rods evenly spaced around a central axis. The hexapole cannot act as a mass filter by applying a DC field and is used only in its all-RF mode. It is therefore a wide band-pass filter and is used to collimate an ion beam. Assemblies of small disks are rotated in a planetary movement around a central screw conveyor. The disks are mounted on six hoUow axles and the axles revolve on overhanging bearings from the gearbox at one end of the vessel where they are driven, via a drive shaft, by an electric motor. The filtrate is collected from the disks via the hoUow shafts and a filter valve into a large collecting pipe. The hoUow shafts also collect the water and air from the dewatering process, in another part of the rotational cycle. The number of disks mounted on the shafts can be adjusted for different materials, depending on the required capacity and the cake thickness to be used. [Pg.406]

Another significant disadvantage of the patented process is the two large mnning seals involved in the main body of the filter as the vessel rotates around a stationary central arrangement this seal is another potential source of trouble. This version has Htde chance of commercial success and has been shelved in favor of a more conventional system of stationary vessel (16). [Pg.406]

A plate-type filter, the PDF filter (18), uses a paddle wheel with radial, longitudinal plates coveted with filter cloth and manifolded to the filter valve at one end of the vessel, instead of a dmm. This filter uses a horizontal pressure vessel, was built to have only 0.75 or 1.5 m area, and operates at 25 kPa. A central screw conveyor collects the cake blown off the plates and conveys it to the discharge end of the vessel. [Pg.407]

The disk filter is similar to the dmm in operation, but filtration is conducted using a series of large diameter filter disks that carry the filter medium on both sides of the disk. They are connected to the main horizontal shaft and partly immersed in the feed slurry. The central shaft is connected by a set of valves which serve to provide vacuum and air as in dmm filters. As the disk sections submerge during rotation, vacuum is appHed to form a cake on both sides of the disk. The cycle of operation is similar to that in a dmm filter. One unit can have as many as 12 disks of up to 5-m diameter. Disk filters, both compact and cost effective, are used extensively in the iron ore industry to dewater magnetite concentrates. [Pg.414]

Figure 11-69 describes a typical central system. Either water or direct-expansion refrigerant coils or air washers may be used for cooling. Steam or hot-water coils are available for heating. Humidification may be provided by target-type water nozzles, pan humidifiers, air washers, or sprayed coils. Air cleaning is usually provided by cleanable or throwaway filters. Central-station air-conditioning units in capacities up to about 50,000 cu ft/min are available in prefabricated units. [Pg.1105]

Disk Filters A disk filter is a vacuum filter consisting of a number of vertical disks attached at intervals on a continuously rotating horizontal hollow central shaft (Fig. 18-127). Rotation is by a gear drive. Each disk consists of 10 to 30 sectors of metal, plastic, or wood, ribbed on both sides to support a filter cloth and provide drainage via an outlet nipple into the central shaft. Each sector may be replaced individually. The filter medium is usually a cloth bag slipped over the sectors and sealed to the discharge nipple. For some heavy-duty applications on ores, stainless-steel screens may be used. [Pg.1717]
