Spinning Assembly

The spinning assembly can be round or rectangular. It contains a filter package on top of a supporting/distribution plate. The spinning plate is the bottom of the spinning assembly.

Filtration can be applied in all stages of the process in a central filter in the polymer melt line, or at the end of the line, in the spinning assembly. Central filters are common in large-scale melt-spinning processes, for example, staple fiber production. Two parallel filters may be used to enable filter deaning without interruption... 

Spinning assemblies always contain filters. In many cases it is the only place where filtration takes place, but there may also be a combination of prefiltration... 

The pressure drop over the filter package would add 30-50 bar, resulting in an initial pressure drop over the spinning assembly of 60-85 bar. The pressure drop over the filter does increase during the lifetime of the spinning assembly. The assembly would be taken out of the machine at 200-250 bar. 

An even coarser description is attempted in Ginzburg-Landau-type models. These continuum models describe the system configuration in temis of one or several, continuous order parameter fields. These fields are thought to describe the spatial variation of the composition. Similar to spin models, the amphiphilic properties are incorporated into the Flamiltonian by construction. The Flamiltonians are motivated by fiindamental synnnetry and stability criteria and offer a unified view on the general features of self-assembly. The universal, generic behaviour—tlie possible morphologies and effects of fluctuations, for instance—rather than the description of a specific material is the subject of these models. 

The spinnerets in a production line assembly consist of multiple groupings of orifices thus the number of fibers from a single spinning ceU can vary. AU three spinning techniques mentioned above commonly employ spinning lines that carry as many as 250 fibers (sometimes referred to as a rope) drawn from a single multiorifice spinneret.

Plate pr esses. Sometimes called sheet filters, these are assemblies of plates, sheets of filter media, and sometimes screens or frames. Thev are essentially modified filter presses with practically no cakeholding capacity. A press may consist of many plates or of a single filter sheet between two plates, the plates may be rectangular or circular, and the sheets may lie in a horizontal or vertical plane. The operation is similar to that of a filter press, and the flow rates are about the same as for disk filters. The operating pressure usually does not exceed 138 kPa (20 psig). The presses are used most frequently for low-viscosity liqmds, but an ordinaiy filter press with thin frames is commonly used as a clarifier for 100-Pa s (1000-P) rayon-spinning solution. Here the filtration pressure may be 6900 kPa (1000 psig). 

This test is performed to verify the struetural integrity of the expander wheels and the eompressor wheels. The expander wheels should be instantaneously oversped during the meehanieal test while assembled on the shaft. Compressor wheels should be oversped during the meehanieal test or, alternatively, in a separate spin test faeility.
