Reliable estimates of annual production of biphenyl in the United States are difficult to obtain. The 1990 figure is probably on the order of 16 million kg /yr of which about half is derived from hydrodealkylation sources. About 10% of the biphenyl derived from HDA sources is consumed, as 93—95% grade, in textile dye carrier applications. The remainder is used for alkylation or upgraded to >99.9% grades for heat-transfer purposes. Essentially all of the high purity biphenyl produced by dehydrocondensation of benzene is used as alkylation feedstock or is utilized directly in heat-transfer applications. [Pg.117]

A moderately lipophilic emulsifier and foam control agent, is useful as an emulsifier for polar and non-polar solvents, as spreading agent in pigment printing, and as a post-stabilizer in emulsion polymerization. An emulsifier in textile jet dye carrier applications. [Pg.364]

This article describes macrophage phagocytosis of polymer microspheres for the purpose of a deeper understanding of the polymer interaction with phagocytic cells. The provided information should contribute to the development of polymeric biomaterials, especially of polymer carriers applicable for drug delivery systems. [Pg.111]

Rheological Additives. SAS serve as excellent rheological additives in a large number of liquid, pastelike, or thermoplastic systems and in solids. Between 0.1 and 2% of the additive is used for applications of this kind, whereas between 3 and 33% is used for the carrier applications discussed in the following section. Table VII lists the applications in which SAS are used as rheological additives. [Pg.473]

Carrier Applications. These applications are understood to mean fields of use in which the applied amounts of SAS exceed 2%. By far the most important application is choline chloride in a 60 or 75% aqueous solution that is transformed into a pressure-stable, free-flowing powder with the aid of spray-dried precipitated silicas. Another significant use is as plant protectants and pesticides SAS are being used in a wide range of applications in this field. An overview of these applications is given in Table Vffl (53). [Pg.474]

In the last few years, new microgranulate carriers based on precipitated silicas have been successfully introduced to the major carrier applications. Based on advanced drying technology, these products offer the same good absorption characteristics but improved flow behavior and dust-free handling. [Pg.783]

Nanoparticles interact with fluids, cells, and tissues. Therefore, checking the toxicity of nanoparticles is a necessity. At the site of final retention in the target organs, nanoparticles may tri er mediators, which then may activate inflammatory or immunological responses. With such reasons, designing the biopol3mier-based nanoparticles with the specific sizes is one of the most important criteria for delivery carrier application. Particle shape, surface charge, and surface feature also play roles in intercellular deliveiy... [Pg.653]
