Carbon sulfide

The most common compound of carbon and sulfur is CS2, carbon disulfide. It can be prepared by the reaction of carbon and sulfur in an electric furnace or by passing sulfur vapor over hot carbon  [Pg.241]

Two other compounds containing carbon and sulfur should be mentioned. The first of these is carbon monosulfide, CS. This compound has been reported to be obtained by the reaction of CS2 with ozone. The second compound is COS or, more correctly, OCS. It is prepared by the reaction [Pg.242]

When CS2 is subjected to an electric discharge, one of the products is C3S2, a linear molecule having a structure similar to that of C302 except for having sulfur atoms in the terminal positions. [Pg.242]

Zinc. Zinc, one of the most widely needed and used micronutrients, is appHed as sulfates (both basic and normal hydrates), carbonate, sulfide, phosphate, oxide, chelates, and other organic materials. Rates of Zn appHcation range from 0.2 to 22 kg/hm. ... [Pg.242]

The only commercial carbon sulfide is carbon disulfide (qv) [75-15-0] There are several unstable carbon sulfides. Carbon subsulfide [12976-57-2] ... [Pg.129]

Incompletely Characterized Carbon Sulfides. A poorly characterized black soHd, known as carsul, occurs as a residue ia sulfur distillation or as a precipitate ia molten Frasch sulfur (12,13). Although this material may approach the composition of a carbon sulfide, it is more likely also to contain some chemically bound hydrogen and possibly other elements. Carbon—sulfur surface compounds of the formula C S, where xis greater than 4,... [Pg.129]

According to Hofman-Bang carbon sulfide selenide, CSSe, catalyzes the iodine-azide reaction but is at the same time decomposed with the formation of selenium. Experiments, in both this laboratory and that of Hofman-Bang have shown that carbon diselenide reacts with sodium azide (in aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solution) with immediate precipitation of red selenium even at — 20° C. //a selena-triazole is formed in this reaction it must be extremely unstable. [Pg.275]

Beck et al. discovered that there were two polymorphs of the carbon-sulfide compound C(yS8 20 a previously discovered planar polymorph, a, and a V-shaped polymorph, / , with the central dithiin ring angled at 133° about the C-S-C bonds <2005NJC465>. [Pg.714]

There are various possibilities for functional groups on the surface of carbonates, sulfides, phosphates etc. Using a very simple approach similar to the one in Fig. 2.1 for hydrous oxides one could postulate surface groups for carbonates (e.g., FeC03) and sulfides (e.g., ZnS), as follows ... [Pg.56]
