Standard carbons

Mercury vapor discharge from vents of reactors or storage tanks at normal atmospheric pressure is controlled readily by means of activated carbon. Standard units (208-L (55-gal) dmms) of activated carbon equipped with proper inlet and outlet nozzles can be attached to each vent. To minimize the load on the carbon-absorbing device, a small water-cooled condenser is placed between the vent and the absorber. [Pg.116]

In the second method a solution of the approximate strength required is prepared, and this is standardised against some standard alkaline substance, such as sodium tetraborate or anhydrous sodium carbonate standard potassium iodate or pure silver may also be used (see Section 10.84). If a solution of an exact strength is required, a solution of an approximate strength somewhat greater than that desired is first prepared this is suitably diluted with water after standardisation (for a typical calculation, see Appendix 17). [Pg.285]

Carbon can exist as graphite or diamond under standard conditions. It can, however, have only one standard state. Carbons standard state is graphite. [Pg.251]

A similar set of experiments was performed to test our ability to precisely characterize strontium isotopes. For the archaeological chemistry of biological remains, strontium isotopes are useful for testing dietary hypotheses and for examining differences in place of birth and place of residence. To test the precision of strontium isotope ratio measurement using TOF-ICP-MS, we made glass fusion beads using NIST Strontium Carbonate Standard SRM 987 and... [Pg.302]

It is obvious from the above material that the presence of silicon in a molecule almost invariably leads to photochemical reactivity, sometimes closely related to the behavior of the analogous all-carbon compound, but very often leading to unusual behavior (by carbon standards). [Pg.1001]

The weighted culture values for R. vilardeboana are based on growth data for B. aculeata. C and 0 isotopic compositions in both both years (Fig. 5). Carbonate standards spanning ... [Pg.142]

We analyzed the physical and structural properties of hydrous oxide materials having high ORR activity to determine the factors leading to high-performance PEMFC cathode catalysts. Last year, we reported 20 times the ORR activity per weight Pt when Pt-iron oxide (Pt-FeOx) catalysts are compared to 10 weight % PtWulcan carbon standards. The nanoscale structural properties that lead to this high activity are reported here. [Pg.414]

Aliquots of CO2 produced during 0-plasmas were analyzed on three different stable isotope-ratio mass spectrometers over a period of five years. The peyote button and the T-shirt label were both run in the summer of 2001. These two samples were chosen to further establish that mass fractionation of carbon during the oxygen plasmas is a small or negligible effect and to test the nondestructive nature of the technique on organic materials. For calibration to Peedee belemnite (PDB) primary standard, carbonate standard NBS-19 (8 C = 1.95%o) was used (i.e., Vienna PDB). values are expressed relative to the V-PDB standard (19). Analytical precision was approximately 0.06%o for 6 C. [Pg.13]

SAXS was performed at the beam-line JUSIFA at the synchrotron source HASYLAB, Hamburg. To detmnine the scattering cross section for the sample investigated on an absolute scale, the scattering of the sample was calibrated using a glassy carbon standard as a reference. [Pg.352]

Static SAXS experiments were performed on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory 10-m pinhole collimated SAXS camera using CuK radiation (X. = 0.154 nm) and a 20 x 20 on position-sensitive area detector. The scattering from each sample was determined at two sample-to-detector distances 2.119 and 5.119 m. The data were azimuthaiiy averaged and converted to an absoiute differential cross-section by means of precalibrated secondary standards (6) a high density polyethylene, PES-3, was used for the low q data and a vitreous carbon standard was employed for the... [Pg.219]

Since May 2008 all new homes are required to have a Code Rating and a Code Certificate. By 2016 all new homes must be built to zero-carbon standards, which will be achieved through step-by-step tightening of the Building Regulations. [Pg.87]
