The effect of copper salts on the growth of wheat has been investigated by Voelcker2 for the sulphate and carbonate. Quantities between 0-01 and 0-02 per cent, were found to have a stimulating effect. In smaller proportion the salts were without influence, and in larger amount they exerted a toxic action. [Pg.257]

SULPHANILAMIDE. (Reaction C.) Add 15 g. of the above thoroughly drained sulphonamide to 10 ml. of concentrated hydrochloric acid diluted with 20 ml. water, and boil the mixture gently under reflux for i hour. Then add 30 ml. of water and heat the mixture again to boiling, with the addition of a small quantity of animal charcoal. Filter the boiling solution, and add powdered sodium carbonate in small quantities to the filtrate with stirring until all eflFervescence ceases and the sulphanilamide is precipitated as a white powder.
