Granular carbon

Refining. After saccharification, the hydrolyzate is clarified by precoat filtration, or possibly membrane filtration, to remove traces of insoluble fat, protein, and starch. Treatment with powdered carbon, granular carbon, and/or ion-exchange resins is then used to remove residual trace impurities, color, and inorganic constituents. The refined hydrolyzate can be dried to a solid product, evaporated to a high dextrose syrup, or processed to crystalline monohydrate or anhydrous dextrose. A typical process for production of crystalline dextrose is shown in Figure 2(7). [Pg.291]

We have found that the waste wood and used tealeaves showed high adsorption capabilities for ammonia gas in low equilibrium pressure (< 13.3 kPa). The amount of the adsorbed ammonia for these carbonized materials were much higher that of the activated carbon Granular Shirasagi GS3 x 4/6. These results suggest that the carbonized materials from organic wastes could be utilized as adsorbents for ammonia... [Pg.152]

Various organic wastes were carbonized with super-heated water vapor using a rotary drum super-heated water vapor generator (SJH-IOM, Johnson Boiler, Japan) and a rotary kiln (JBT-1OM, Johnson Boiler, Japan). The organic wastes were processed at 623 K for 30 - 90 min. Process data and properties of various carbonized materials are summarized in Table 1. An activated carbon (Granular Shirasagi GS3 x 4/6, Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd., Japan) and an activated carbon prepared for alkaline gas adsorption (GAH 4-8, Cataler Corp., Japan) were used as controls. [Pg.153]

Surface areas determined by nitrogen gas adsorption (Sn2)> nd those determined by carbon dioxide (Sco2) for the various carbonized materials are summarized in Table 2. The carbonated materials showed much smaller Sn2 than the activated carbon Granular Shirasagi. The Sco2> on the other hand, of the carbonated materials were almost the same order of magnitude to that of the activated carbon. These results show that the carbonized materials have mesopores whose diameter is less than SO nm. [Pg.153]

The 2 filter columns are filled with different supports. The first is activated carbon (granular coco nuts origin Picactif NC 60), the second is a non activated one (Picactif NCC). The characteristics of both materials are given in Table 4. [Pg.544]

An important type of porous carbons is activated carbons. Granular activated carbons are prepared from different precursors and used in a wide range of industries. Their preparation, structure and applications were reviewed in different books and reviews [3,4,71-75]. In Table 8, some properties of different adsorbents (activated carbons, silica gel, alumina gel and zeolite) are compared with each other. High BET surface area and light weight are the main advantages of activated carbons. Usually activated carbons have a wide ran of pore sizes from micropores to macropores, which shows a marked contrast to the definite pore size of zeolites. [Pg.76]

Investigations were carried out on commercially manufactured active carbons. Granular active carbons were obtained using following processes (AG) from hard coal at 1173-1227K, (RN) the same method of preparation as carbon AG, except in this case of peat at 1227K. [Pg.508]
