To properly design the capacitance for the output stage, one should place enough capacitors in parallel so that each capacitor operates at about 70 to 80 percent of its maximum ripple current rating. The sum of the capacitors should equal the final calculated value, but each capacitor should have the value of Ctot/fi, where n is the number of capacitors in parallel. [Pg.62]

Kevin Cuomo was a student in my course on nonlinear dynamics, and at the end of the semester he treated our class to a live demonstration of his approach. First he showed us how to make the chaotic mask, using an electronic implementation of the Lorenz equations (Figure 9.6.1). The circuit involves resistors, capacitors, operational amplifiers, and analog multiplier chips. [Pg.335]

Electrochemical capacitors operate with the same principles as conventional electrostatic capacitors which consist of two conducting materials separated by a dielectric. The capacitance C (in Farad) is expressed as Eq. (1) ... [Pg.296]

The efficiency of an induction furnace installation is determined by the ratio of the load usehil power, P, to the input power P, drawn from the utihty. Losses that must be considered include those in the power converter (transformer, capacitors, frequency converter, etc), transmission lines, cod electrical losses, and thermal loss from the furnace. Figure 1 illustrates the relationships for an induction furnace operating at a constant load temperature with variable input power. Thermal losses are constant, cod losses are a constant percentage of the cod input power, and the usehd out power varies linearly once the fixed losses are satisfied. [Pg.126]

Power Supplies and Controls. Induction heating furnace loads rarely can be connected directiy to the user s electric power distribution system. If the load is to operate at the supply frequency, a transformer is used to provide the proper load voltage as weU as isolation from the supply system. Adjustment of the load voltage can be achieved by means of a tapped transformer or by use of a solid-state switch. The low power factor of an induction load can be corrected by installing a capacitor bank in the primary or secondary circuit. [Pg.127]

The MOSEET has three regions of operation. The cutoff region occurs for V g < Up. In this region, the drain-to-source current is the reverse saturation current of the back-to-back source and drain junctions. This leakage current is small but nonzero and allows charge to leak off capacitors which are isolated by cutoff MOSFETs. Because this is how bits are stored in dynamic memory (DRAM) ceUs, DRAMs must be regularly refreshed to retain their memory. [Pg.352]

Sohd tantalum capacitors have a high volumetric capacitance which makes them attractive for use in miniaturized electronic systems like cellular telephones, hand-held video cameras, and personal computers. The insensitivity of their capacitance to temperature and their abiUty to operate at temperature extremes explains why these devices are used in such harsh environments as automobile engine compartments. Sohd tantalum capacitors are extremely rehable and, therefore, are often the capacitor of choice in critical appHcations like spacecraft electronics, pacemakers, and safety equipment. [Pg.330]
