Calcium carbonate tablets

Gorecki DKJ, Richardson CJ, Pavlakidis P, Wallace SM. Dissolution rates in calcium carbonate tablets a consideration in product selection. Can ] Pharm 1989 122 484 87, 508. [Pg.92]

Calcium carbonate tablets can be used as an antacid and a source of dietary calcium. A bottle of generic antacid tablets states that each tablet contains 500. mg calcium carbonate. What volume of 6.0 M HNO3 could be neutralized by the calcium carbonate in one tablet ... [Pg.429]

Calcium Carbonate Tablets (500 mg) Calcium Effervescent Tablets... [Pg.4]

Calcium carbonate is the salt of choice because it contains the highest amount of elemental calcium and is the least expensive (see Table 88-5). The fraction of calcium absorbed is dose-limited, so maximum single doses of 600 mg or less of elemental calcium are recommended. Calcium carbonate tablets should be taken with meals to enhance absorption. Calcium citrate absorption is acid-independent and need not be administered with meals. Although tricalcium phosphate contains 39% calcium, nonabsorbable calcium-phosphorus complexes may limit overall calcium absorption compared to other products. This product may be required for up to 10% of seniors with hypophosphatemia that cannot be resolved with increased dietary intake. Disintegration and dissolution rates vary significantly between products and lots. Products with good disintegration and dissolution rates and lead contents of less than 1 mcg/day should be recommended. [Pg.1657]

Antacids. In a single-dose study, the pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir 150 mg and its active carboxylate metakwlite were not affected by antacids. The antacids used were an aluminium/magnesium hydroxide suspension (Maalox) and calcium carbonate tablet (Titralac). ... [Pg.810]

Adipic acid deserves to be mentioned even if it does not function as an acid source because of its low water solubility. It has given good results as a lubricant for effervescent calcium carbonate tablets (11). [Pg.369]

With the news that calcium deficiencies in many women s diets may contribute to the development of osteoporosis (bone weakening), the use of dietary calcium supplements has become increasingly common. Many of these calcium supplements consist of nothing more than calcium carbonate, CaCOs. When a calcium carbonate tablet is ingested, it dissolves by reaction with stomach acid, which contains hydrochloric acid, HCl. The unbalanced equation is... [Pg.271]

Intermittent, mild heartburn Lifestyle modifications plus patient-directed therapy Antacids Maalox or Mylanta 30 mL as needed or after meals and at bedtime Gaviscon 2 tabs after meals and at bedtime Calcium carbonate 500 mg, 2-4 tablets as needed and/or Nonprescription 11 receptor antagonists (taken up to twice daily) Cimetidine 200 mg Famotidine 10 mg Nizatidine 75 mg Ranitidine 75 mg or... [Pg.280]

Available Bulk powder of dimenhydrinate and pantothenic acid, 25 mg tablets of thiamine HC1 weighing 200 mg each, and 500 mg tablets of calcium carbonate weighing 1 g each. [Pg.131]

Available information Turns tablets (containing 0.5 g of calcium carbonate) and bulk powder sodium carbonate are available for this prescription. [Pg.137]

The exact amount of precipitated calcium carbonate is calculated as follows each Turns tablet containing 0.5 gram of calcium carbonate weighs one gram totally. Therefore fifteen tablets weigh 15 g and contain 15 x 0.5 = 7.5 g of calcium carbonate. [Pg.137]

Amounts of the first two ingredients are obtained directly by weighing the bulk chemicals. For thiamine HC1, 5 tablets of 25 mg are needed, and for calcium carbonate, three tablets of 500 mg are needed. The exact amounts of thiamine HC1 and the calcium carbonate are obtained after... [Pg.354]

It may seem strange that we would ever want to perform an experiment of this kind. First of all it would be used in the event of a slow reaction taking place in the reaction flask. Perhaps the sample is not dissolved completely, and addition of the titrant causes dissolution to take place over a period of minutes or hours. Adding an excess of the titrant and back-titrating it later would seem an appropriate course of action in a case of this kind. An example would be the determination of the calcium carbonate in an antacid tablet (Experiment 13). [Pg.109]

Why is a back titration useful in the analysis of an antacid tablet containing calcium carbonate as the active ingredient ... [Pg.140]

Calcium carbonate is not soluble in water. The addition of the standard acid to a tablet immersed in water causes it to dissolve, but rather slowly. A direct titration is not appropriate because the reaction is not fast, and it would be difficult to detect the end point. A back titration is therefore useful because the standard acid can be added in excess so that the calcium carbonate completely dissolves. The excess acid can then be titrated with a standard base. [Pg.510]

A 49-year-old woman, taking levothyroxine 150 micro-grams/day and calcium carbonate (three tablets daily) for prevention of osteoporosis, developed symptoms of hypothyroidism and had a raised serum TSH concentration (22 mU/1). She was advised to continue taking the same dose of levothyroxine but to separate her medications. Repeat biochemical testing 8 months later showed a normal serum TSH (3.3 mU/1). [Pg.351]

The primary antacids can be classified as aluminum-containing, magnesium-containing, calcium carbonate-containing, sodium bicarbonate-containing, or a combination of any of these classifications. These drugs are typically taken orally, either as tablets or as a liquid oral suspension. [Pg.390]

The primary ingredient in Turns is calcium carbonate (CaC03). How many moles are in a 0.75-gram tablet ... [Pg.45]

The label on a bottle of supplements lists all the vitamins and minerals the supplements contain. It also lists the form and source of each vitamin and mineral, and the amount of each. The form of a mineral is especially important to know because it affects the quantity your body can use. For example, a supplement may claim to contain 650 mg of calcium carbonate, CaC03, per tablet. This does not mean that there is 650 mg of calcium. The amount of actual calcium, or elemental calcium, in calcium carbonate is only 260 mg. Calcium carbonate has more elemental calcium than the same amount of calcium gluconate, which only has 58 mg for every 650 mg of the compound. Calcium gluconate may be easier for your body to absorb, however. [Pg.188]
