Paracetamol tablets

The other peaks demonstrate the power of NMR to identify and quantitate all the components of a sample. This is very important for die phannaceutical industry. Most of the peaks, including a small one accidentally underlying the methyl resonance of paracetamol, arise from stearic acid, which is connnonly added to paracetamol tablets to aid absorption. The integrals show diat it is present in a molar proportion of about 2%. The broader peak at 3.4 ppm is from water, present because no attempt was made to dry the sample. Such peaks may be identified either by adding fiirther amounts of the suspected substance, or by the more fiindamental methods to be outlined below. If the sample were less concentrated, then it would also be... [Pg.1442]

The assay is more or less the same as that described for the paracetamol tablets except that the tablets are extracted with 0.05 M sodium acetate buffer pH 4.4. The calibration standard solutions are prepared so that they contain both aspirin and paracetamol in 0.05 M sodium acetate buffer pH 4.4 in the concentration range 1.0-1.5 mg/100 ml. [Pg.256]

Fig. 3.9. Enhancement of transmission Raman signal using a standard dielectric band-pass filter (BF) placed within the laser beam into the proximity of sample. The Raman spectra are those of a standard paracetamol tablet measured with (with band-pass filter) and without (bare) the filter. The spectra are offset for clarity. The acquisition times were 1 s in both cases with a laser power of 250 mW (827 nm). The spectra were detected with an Ocean Optics spectrograph equipped with a detector array cooled to -15° C... What happens if a doctor is called by distraught parents because their child has swallowed something that might be poisonous, such as paracetamol tablets or weedkiller If the doctor is a general practitioner he/ she may not know specifically what to do but can telephone the nearest Poisons Information Service in the United Kingdom or Poison Control Centers in the United States, who may be able to give advice on treatment. Often the patient will be taken to an Accident and Emergency department at the nearest hospital. [Pg.46]
