Textile. Textile bags are made from natural fibers such as cotton and burlap (see Fibers, vegetable). Burlap or Hessian cloth is woven from jute fibers. Because the supply of jute and, consequendy, its price have been uncertain for many years, textile bags gradually have been replaced by various combinations of textile components with plastic or paper, multiwaH paper bags, or plastic bags (see Textiles). [Pg.514]

The mixture is now transferred to a 12-I. flask, 625 cc. (495 g-) °f acetone is added, and the solution is heated on the steam bath to 70°. Heating is then discontinued, the flask wrapped in burlap in order to retard loss of heat, and the mixture allowed to stand over night. The acid is then neutralized with a concentrated (50 per cent) solution of sodium hydroxide (about 720 g. of alkali is required), a distinctly alkaline reaction to litmus being just obtained. [Pg.61]

During the experiments the rabbits were semi-restricted in their movements by being wrapped in burlap sacking, but were otherwise unrestrained by either mechanical devices or drugs. We confirmed Purpura s observations that LSD-25... [Pg.211]

The DMT elves tend to form intricate patterns if viewed as a group, being composed of a smaller amount of body-part shapes which are usually replicated in each elf The Salvinorin elves were dressed differently than the DMT elves and acted more goofy and playful They were composed of many soft hues of color, where the DMT elves tend towards contrasty radiant elements. There was one critter that looked like a dressed hamster. I could see that his body was sewn from rough burlap cloth. He was bursting at the warns in a few spots, and I could see the loose thread and a bit of... [Pg.23]

Cotton and Linen Cloth, etc.— The two most important sources of cellulose for the manufacture of thread and cloth and similar articles are the holl of the cotton plant and the stalk of the flax plant. The former is the source of all goods known as cotton while the materials made from the latter are termed linen. Another important fibre plant is hemp, the leaves or stalk of which yields fibres which are principally used in making twine, rope and canvas. Several varieties of hemp are used such as manila hemp, sisal, etc. The stalk of ihtjute plant is the source of materials out of which sacking or burlap and carpets are made.. In the manufacture of these products the fibre of the plant is mechanically separated and then spun into thread or twisted into yarn or rope. The thread or yarn are then woven into fabrics. The products possess properties characteristic of the particular fibre used. As in the manufacture of all of these important materials the cellulose undergoes no chemical change but is simply mechanically treated no further details of the processes will be given. [Pg.370]
