In relation to consumer uses of possible concern for this CICAD, data from the Women s Environmental Network indicate that butyltin stabilizers have been detected in the non-woven polypropylene topsheet of babies nappies (diapers). It is possible that this could relate to the last of the three key uses described above, in that the topsheet could be of silicone-grafted polypropylene (or, as discussed below, the butyltin may be present because of its use as a catalyst in the production of an antioxidant in polyolefin films).

The entire installation is finished with a carpet of synthetic grass, which comprises usually a woven polypropylene lattice in which tufts of green polypropylene fibre or filament are fixed. The lattice is sealed on the under-side with a bonded film—which keeps the tufts in place and may be made from polyethylene, polyurethane, rubber latex, or vinyl plastisol. 

Sulfur, modified in its structure so as to become plastic, presents other problems as it can be a very ductile material. Reinforcement in the sense of load sharing may be effected by incorporating relatively ductile thermoplastic fibers. There is a commercial interest in using polypropylene fibers, and Bennett (10,11) has patented a process whereby woven polypropylene fibers are impregnated with asphalt or bitumen and then are coated on at least one side with a sulfur composition. The plasticized sulfur coating sticks to the base and makes the laminate flexible, weather resistant, and light reflecting. 

In conclusion, both woven polypropylene and glass-fiber fabric each give strong, flexible weatherproof sheet materials when impregnated by sulfur modified by myrcene, alloocimene, or cycloocta-1,3-diene. Typical applications for this type of material are in the fields of civil engineering... 

The bales into which cotton is packed are of varying dimensions, volumes, densities, and weights (see Table 1.1) and are mainly covered with woven polypropylene, polyethylene film, burlap, or cotton fabrics (Figure 1.8).

Primary backing n. The material, usually woven or non-woven polypropylene or jute, into which a carpet is tufted. The primary backing allows the positioning of each tuft and holds the tufts in position during processing, after which a secondary backing (q.v.) is applied to provide dimensional stability.

While often simply exposing a microtomed surface is sufficient for the purpose, sometimes specimens require support, especially thin films which cannot stand by themselves and where the top and bottom layers would be removed by the etchant. Sandwiching techniques have been developed, whereby the top and bottom surfaces are supported and protected by a material which can be etched along with the polymer specimen. An example is a work oti woven polypropylene tapes, both before and after consolidation (Jordan et al. 2003).
