Bucket

Figure 3 gives a view of a bucket on the rotation table in front of the shutter of the image intensifier. [Pg.454]

In very hot weather, the condenser water should first be chilled by passing it through a tall spiral of soft metal compo tubing immersed in a bucket of ice-water. [Pg.83]

Sand. Buckets of dry sand for fire-extinguishing should be available in the laboratory and should be strictly reserved for this purpose, and not encumbered with sand-baths, waste-paper, etc. Most fires on the bench may be quickly smothered by the ample use of sand. Sand once used for this purpose should always be thrown away afterwards, and not returned to the buckets, as it may contain appreciable quantities of inflammable, non-volatile materials e.g., nitrobenzene), and be dangerous if used a second time. [Pg.528]

Finally, the student should familiarise himself with the contents of the Section in the Appendix upon Laboratory Accidents, with the position of the fire extinguisher, buckets of sand, first aid cabinet, and the fireproof blanket. [Pg.206]

A small fire (for example, hquid in a beaker or flask, or an oil bath) may usually be extinguished by covering the opening of the vessel with a clean damp cloth or duster the fire usually dies out from lack of air. For larger fires, dry sand may be employed. Buckets of dry sand should be distributed round the laboratory and should be strictly reserved for this purpose. Most fires on the laboratory bench can be smothered by... [Pg.1132]

This is going to supply the cold water that courses through the condenser whether that condenser is set up for reflux or is part of a distillation configuration. The pump need not be very strong. In fact, the perfect example is one of those little, submergible fish tank pumps that one can find at any pet store for about 10. All the chemist does is attach a hose to the outlet, chunks the little pump into a bucket of ice water, attaches the hose to the condenser and there it is. An alternative source is that little pump that s attached to the windshield washing fluid reservoir of any car in a junk yard. The chemist removes the reservoir (pump still attached), applies an adapted power source to the pump and uses the plastic reservoir to hold the ice water. [Pg.16]

METHOD 2 [128, 129]--To make dibromodioxane one stirs 500g dioxane in a flask which is in an ice bath, all of which is in the hood. 990g of liquid Bra is rapidly added, causing the solution to get hot (one can also bubble in an approximate amount of bromine from a gas canister). The solution is dumped into a bucket containing 2L of ice water, causing the immediate formation of a large mass of orange dibromodioxane crystals which are separated by vacuum filtration and dried. [Pg.224]

Another mining process involves the recovery of sodium carbonate decahydrate from alkaline ponds. EMC mines this material from its solar evaporation pond using a bucket wheel dredge. The decahydrate slurry is dewatered, melted, and processed to soda ash. [Pg.525]

Cmshed stone is conveyed by a mbber-belt conveyor and bucket elevator. Fine stone and dust are conveyed by enclosed screw conveyors, air slides, or pneumatic air systems into storage bins and tank tmcks for shipment. For screening, changeable vibratory screens predominate for all sizes from 23 cm to 0.074 mm (200 mesh). Most stone is stored uncovered on the ground in conical stockpiles, suppHed by radial belt conveyors. Such a conveyor can maintain four stockpiles of different sized stone. Large commercial plants typically stockpile stone in 10 sizes ... [Pg.170]

The superheated steam generated in the superheater section is coHected in a header pipe that leads to the plant s high pressure steam turbine. The steam turbine s rotor consists of consecutive sets of large, curved, steel aHoy disks, each of which anchors a row of precision-cast turbine blades, also caHed buckets, which protmde tangentiaHy from the shaft and impart rotation to the shaft when impacted by jets of high pressure steam. Rows of stationary blades are anchored to the steam turbine s outer sheH and are located between the rows of moving rotor blades. [Pg.7]

In the gum rosin process, pine trees are wounded to stimulate the flow of gum. V-shaped slashes are cut through the bark, and the exudate is collected in a bucket below the slash. Production is stimulated by painting sulfuric acid on the slashes. The oleoresin (exudate) is separated by distillation into gum spidts of turpentine and gum rosin. The gum turpentine industry has decreased in importance in the 1990s because it is labor-intensive. The process is carried out in Russia, the People s Repubflc of China, Indonesia, Portugal, Brazil, and Mexico. [Pg.138]

Draglines are equipped with a 71-m bucket at the end of a 111-m boom and can be employed to dig both a portion of the overburden, which is free-cast into the mining pit, and the tar sand, which is piled in windrows behind the machine. Bucket-wheel reclaimers, similar to bucket-wheel excavators, load the tar sand from the windrows onto conveyor belts which transfer it to the plant. [Pg.358]

In more recent years, molded flexible foam products are becoming more popular. The bulk of the molded flexible urethane foam is employed in the transportation industry, where it is highly suitable for the manufacture of seat cushions, back cushions, and bucket-seat padding. TDI prepolymers were used in flexible foam mol ding ia conjunction with polyether polyols. The introduction of organotin catalysts and efficient siHcone surfactants faciHtates one-shot foam mol ding, which is the most economical production method. [Pg.348]
