Bond certificates

Property Titling. Property (such as stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit, or real estate) held in joint tenancy with rights of survivorship automatically passes to the joint owner upon your death. This property is not subject to probate. If the property was acquired before 1977, the property s full value is included in your estate for tax purposes. For property acquired after that date, only your share of the property is included in your estate. Property held as tenancy in common does not follow these rules. In this case, you can leave your share to whomever you wish and it is subject to probate. [Pg.243]

Investments For some people, this can be most important. List all stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit, IRA or Keogh accounts, and other investments. Include issuer name and cost to you. Also indicate where items are located. Identify your stockbroker and other agents. If you have any gold coins or silver bars that constitute an investment, provide location and details. [Pg.256]

But what about a healthy dose of nostalgia Some believe that these older bond certificates make valuable collectors items. The collecting of canceled stock, bonds, and other securities is known as scripophily (scrip-AF4F-illy), and Bob Kerstein, founder and CEO of Scripophily.com (http //www.scripophily.com), can attest to the growing fascination with the hobby, as his group of web sites receive more than 6.5 million hits per year. Founded two years ago, Scripophily.com sells about 30 percent bond certificates in relation to stocks. Other sites offering the chance to buy bond memorabilia include ... [Pg.132]

Sometimes the old bond certificate is worth more dead than alive. For example, the Altoona and Beech Creek Terminal Railroad Company issued the bond shown in Figure 11.1 in 1901. This railroad company was incorporated in 1897, the bonds were issued in 1901, and the company went bankrupt in 1904. The certificate was hand signed by the company s owners,- there are over 50 unused coupons attached to this certificate. It is for sale at Scripophily.com for 149.95, obviously more than what was originally paid for the bond. [Pg.133]

Located in New York City, the Museum of Financial History (http //www.financialhistory.org) is an affiliate of the Smithsonian and owns more than 10,000 financial documents, including stock and bond certificates, claiming to be the largest in the world. The profit expected back on any project must be greater than that for projects having fewer risks. In 1974 some banks were offering certificates of deposit that returned a 7.5% profit per year. This investment and some Aaa bonds (see Table 10-12) or government bonds are probably minimum-risk situations. [Pg.323]

Other insurance products are the so-called "financial responsibility" products. This term includes the tools that require companies to demonstrate to have sufficient financial resources for eventual future environmental damage that may arise through their activities. In its common implementation, financial responsibility implies that a production activity is authorized only if companies can prove that they will be able to financially cover economic claims, for example, using surety bonds, cash accounts, deposit certificates, self-insurances, and corporate guarantees. [Pg.34]

Companies in need of more capital can also raise it by selling bonds. A bond is a certificate, with a face value usually much larger than that of a share, which has a fixed lifetime, usually 10 years at least, at the end of which time the bond matures and the company pays back its face value (by then, of course, much decreased in real value). However, the company also guarantees to pay interest at a fixed percentage of the bond s face value for this lifetime, usually twice a year, and this rate is usually quite an attractive one. [Pg.278]

In the following, the synthesis of the most often employed stationary phase is discussed spherical silica with an n-octadecyl modification. The synthesis route has been chosen because all synthesis steps are well characterized and documented in standard operation procedure (SOP) protocols. The objective of this work was to develop a manufacturing process for a reversed phase C18-bonded silica column for HPLC according to standardized and validated procedures and to perform certification of the column, the tests and the mobile phases (du Fresne von Hohenesche et al., 2004). Figure 3.13 shows a scheme of the whole manufacturing process, and Table 3.7 summarizes the main steps. [Pg.70]

In summary, bonded repairs are the preferred approach for manufacturing repairs to both honeycomb sandwich and monolithic secondary stmcture. However, for the FAA and European Airworthiness and Safety Administration, the main reason for withholding certification of bonded repairs for primary structure is the lack of certainty over bond quality as it is not possible to assess strength and durability of bonded joints without destructive testing. [Pg.405]

The 40-day restriction means the securities must be represented initially by a temporary global bond, i.e., one single bond for the whole issue. The investor can only obtain his permanent global bond on presentation of a certificate indicating that either (a) that the beneficial owner is not a US person or (b) that the beneficial owner is a US person who falls within one of the limited exceptions available after the 40-day period has lapsed. [Pg.902]
