Beta Scientific make three analyzers, the 4200, the 4201 and the 4203. These instruments were designed for unattended and fully automatic operation, complete analyses in less than 10 minutes, cost effectiveness and an ASCII, R232 interface for computer or LIMS connection [196]. The model 4200 is a single channel instrument with no R232 interface and manual calibration the model 4201 also includes an R232 interface, and the moel 4203 is a three channel version without sample preparation but with an R232 interface. Montmorillonite is a laminar and expandable clay with wet binding properties and widely available throughout the world. The layers have permanent negative charges due to isomorphic substitutions. The scientific interest of montmorillonite lies in its physical and chemical properties as well as its low price. Consequently, the industrial application of montmorillonite is an attractive process [1]. On the other hand, among numerous reports published so far, crystallization of zeolite Beta draws much attention because of its unique characteristics, in particular, acidity and acid catalysis. It is reasonable to conceive that a catalyst system based on Beta/montmorillonite composite with suitable composition should provide a good catalytic capacity. [Pg.137]

Zeolite Beta with its three-dimensional channel system appears more suitable for conversion of gas oil feeds containing large molecules in FCC and hydrocracking processes and has indeed received much attention in the scientific and technical literature [38-40]. It exhibits very strong acidity which exceeds that of stabihzed Y zeolites. The crystallinities were determined by XRD (Phillips PW1830 spectrometer, CuK< radiation) in reference to the parent TEA-beta sample. Textural properties were determined by nitrogen adsorpticm at 77 K in a Mictomeritics ASAP 2400. Before experiments, the samples were treated in vacuum at 573 K for three hours. The acidity of the samples was measured by IR spectroscopy combined with pyridine adsorption/desorption experiments on a Nicolet 710 FTIR Spectrometer equipped with data station. The solid state Si and A1 NMR spectra were collected by using a Varian spectrometer, VXR-300 FT NMR, at 7.05 T and equipped with a Varian CP-MAS probe. A 38% ethanolic solution of acetylacetone (ACAC) was used for impregnation of the samples before Al NMR analyses in order to complex all the EFAL including the NMR "invisible" species. The XPS data were collected by a VG-Scientific Escalab MKII spectrometer operated with a MgKa x-ray source. [Pg.458]
