Roller bearings

The axial flow compressors in aero gas turbines are heavily loaded. The aspecl ratio of the blades, especially the first few stages, can be as high as 4.0, and the effecl of streamhne curvature is substantial. The streamline configuration is a function of the annular passage area, the camber and thickness distribution of the blade, and the flow angles at the inlet and outlet of the blades. The shafts on these units are supported on antifriction bearings (roller or ball bearings). 

Figure 60.13 shows the different types of roller elements used in these bearings. Roller elements are classified as cylindrical, barrel, spherical, and tapered. Note that barrel rollers are called needle rollers when less than -inch in diameter and have a relatively high ratio of length to diameter. 

The applications of polyoxymethylene include plumbing and hardware (ballcock valves, shower heads, fittings and valves, pump and filter housings), machinery (gears, bearings, rollers, conveyor chains, airflow valves), transportion (fuel pump housing, cooling-fan parts, fuel...

Most repairs to drive systems performed by plant maintenance personnel will be limited to changing parts. Replacement of bronze bearings, roller bearings, clutches, or brake linings are repairs which usually can be done by the maintenance department. Replace damaged press drive system parts with new original equipment parts from the manufacturer or send them to an outside vendor for repair.

Other mechanical applications of molded graphite include glass-lehr roll bearings, roller bearings for jet-engine exhaust nozzles, metering seats for gasoline pumps, vane pumps for air compressors, rupture disks, and many others. 

I use a bar with a bearing-roller or bearing-sprocket nose because the bearing reduces the amount of friction between bar and chain and allows the chain to cut with up to 20 percent more power. A sprocket or roller supports the chain away from the bar and helps eliminate bar-end wear. The pitch on bearing-sprocket and bearing-roller noses must match the pitch of the chain and engine sprocket. The fraction marked on the bar that is third from the left in the photo shows the pitch of the nose.
