Most repairs to drive systems performed by plant maintenance personnel will be limited to changing parts. Replacement of bronze bearings, roller bearings, clutches, or brake linings are repairs which usually can be done by the maintenance department. Replace damaged press drive system parts with new original equipment parts from the manufacturer or send them to an outside vendor for repair. [Pg.308]

Other mechanical applications of molded graphite include glass-lehr roll bearings, roller bearings for jet-engine exhaust nozzles, metering seats for gasoline pumps, vane pumps for air compressors, rupture disks, and many others. [Pg.117]

Self-supporting models. Here the hydrodynamic brake is provided with its own bearings—roller bearings or, if requested, plain bearings. The hydrodynamic brake is either flange-mounted or separately mounted on the base plate as one of the elements in a drive assembly. See Fig. B-15. [Pg.116]

Ball- and roller-bearing materials ate commonly selected to provide a minimum Rockwell hardness of 58—60 R at load-carrying contacts (37,38). Below this level, fatigue strength drops so rapidly as to seriously impair the utiUty of a material for rolling beatings which involve contact stresses in the 700—2800 MPa... [Pg.8]

The axial flow compressors in aero gas turbines are heavily loaded. The aspecl ratio of the blades, especially the first few stages, can be as high as 4.0, and the effecl of streamhne curvature is substantial. The streamline configuration is a function of the annular passage area, the camber and thickness distribution of the blade, and the flow angles at the inlet and outlet of the blades. The shafts on these units are supported on antifriction bearings (roller or ball bearings). [Pg.927]

Nine Cylindrical roller bearings should normally not be used for such applications. [Pg.214]

The values of these factors are provided by the bearing manufacturers in their catalogues, based on the ratios F /Cg and F IFy, where C is the static load rating in kg or N (based on a contact stress of 4200 MPg for ball bearings and 4000 MPj, for roller bearings, also provided in these catalogues. MPg is the unit of stress in Mega-Pascals. [Pg.214]

C = basic dynamic load rating in kg or N (provided by the bearing manufacturer). It is the load which will give a life of 1 million revolutions P - equivalent dynamic bearing load in kg or N p = exponent of the life equation, which depends upon the type of contact between the races and the rolling elements. It is recommended as 3 for ball bearings and 10/3 for roller bearings = speed of the machine in r.p.m. [Pg.215]

These are a type of roller bearing with a roller diameter normally less than. 250" and about a 1 6 diameter to length ratio, thus the term needle. [Pg.156]

Improper procedure when mounting the bearing on the shaft is one of the most common causes of premature failure. Roller bearings and ball bearings are precision devices, and correct installation... [Pg.160]

Sleeve bearings on some older, slower, larger pump shafts can withstand dirt contamination better than ball and roller bearings. This is because the tolerances are not so strict with sleeve bearings, the surface area of contact is greater, and the lubricant flushing action is better. The sleeve bearing material of construction is... [Pg.161]
