Availability blocks

Rubbery materials are defined by ASTM (D1566) as those which will have less than 50% permanent set after one minute when recovering from a strain of 100% applied for one minute. Of the many rubbery materials available, block copolymers are by far the most common used in hot melts. [Pg.712]

Second, the conversion of one of the blocks into another type of structure by a suitable quantitative chemical reaction, allows a broad diversification of the properties of the available block copolymers. The best example of such an opportunity is probably the hydrogenation of poly(butadiene-b-styrene) copolymers, which yields a product close to a low density poly(ethylene-b-styrene) when starting from an anionically prepared diblock (including a certain amount, ca. 10 %, of 1.2 units), while a high density poly(ethy1ene-b-styrene)... [Pg.308]

Very well known commercially available block copolymers showing micellar behavior are polymers of the Pluronic type. Pluronic-type copolymers are symmetric triblock copolymers with the central block of hydrophobic polypropylene... [Pg.114]

With the purpose of increasing the range of available block copolymers, comonomers other than methacrylates and acrylates can also be involved in sequential polymerization, provided that they are susceptible to anionic polymerization. Dienes, styrene derivatives, vinylpyridines , oxiranes and cyclosiloxanes are examples of such comonomers. The order of the sequential addition is, however, of critical importance for the synthesis to be successful. Indeed, the pX a of the conjugated acid of the living chain-end of the first block must be at least equal to or even larger than that of the second monomer. Translated to a nucleophilicity scale, this pK effect results in the following order of reactivity dienes styrenes > vinylpyridines > methacrylates and acrylates > oxiranes > siloxanes. [Pg.864]

In contrast to conventional and commercially available block copolymers, block copolymers that carry electronically active blocks are relatively rare and the synthesis is challenging, since multi-step organic synthetic procedures have to be combined with one or more polymerization techniques. Further difficulties arise from the limited solubilities and the limited amount of material available from one batch, making the preparation of such materials tedious and time-consuming. [Pg.126]

Commercially available blocked isocyanates include Hylene MP or 4715 from Du Pont (now withdrawn), which is phenol-blocked MDI (Du Pont International S.A., Geneva, Switzerland) Mondur S, a phenol-blocked TDI adduct, Mondur SH, a cresol-blocked TDI trimer, and Experimental E-320-blocked isocyanate, a ketoxime-blocked tetraisocyanate, all from Mobay (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) and Isonate 123P, which is s-caprolactam-blocked PAPI, from the Upjohn Company (Dow Chemical Europe, Horgen, Switzerland). These are shown in Fig. 8.9. Uniroyal also market a product. [Pg.237]

Recently, several researchers (8,10-12) have reported that compatibilized LCP blends exhibit much enhanced mechanical properties, and they have attributed it to the improved interface adhesion between LCP and matrix phases. In this study, an isotropic polymer was incorporated to the binary LCP blends as a third component to solve the problems caused by interface instabilities and poor deformation of LCP domains. The third component was selected from the commercially available block copolymers on the experimental basis, or prepared by synthesizing block copolymers by molecular design. [Pg.119]

Conunercially available blocked isocyanates have included Hylene MP from duPont (XXI) " which is phenol-blocked MDI Mon-dur S (XXII), a phenol-blocked TDI adduct Mondur SH (XXIII), a cresol-blocked TDI tiimer and Experimental E-320 blocked isocyanate (XXIV), a ketoxime-blocked tetraisocyanate, all from Mobay and Isonate 123P (XXV)" which is -caprolactam-blocked PAPI from the Upjohn Company. The Ashland Chemical Company has marketed a conuner-cial chemical class called aminimides which act as isocyanate precursors, eliminating the problem of by-product phenol from the use of phenol-blocked isocyanates.Their chemistry relevant to this use, is as follows ... [Pg.369]

DuPont Co., no longer available. Blocked isocyanates are available from other companies. [Pg.590]
