Auxiliary efficiency

Znl2 was applied successfiilly as Lewis-acid in order to increase the diastereoselectivity of the reaction of a cyclic nitrone with a,P-unsaturated imide derivatives. - It is noteworthy that chiral auxiliaries efficient in numerous other transformations, exhibit only low stereoselection in cycloadditions of nitrones. " ... [Pg.121]

Clearly, the use of diamine 4.43 as a coordinating auxiliary is not successful. However, we anticipated that, if the basicity of the tertiary amine group of the diamine could be reduced, the elimination reaction will be less efficient. We envisaged that replacement of the tertiary amine group in 4.43 by a pyridine ring might well solve the problem. [Pg.116]

Efficient acetalization of alkenes bearing various EWG with an optically active 1.3-diol 72 proceeds smoothly utilizing PdCN, CuCI. and O2 in DME to give the 1,3-dioxane 73[113], Methacrylamide bearing 4-t-butyloxazolidin-2-one 74 as a chiral auxiliary reacts with MeOH in the presence of PdCE catalyst... [Pg.31]

Space needs to be provided for the auxiliaries, including the lube oil and seal systems, lube oil cooler, intercoolers, and pulsation dampeners. A control panel or console is usually provided as part of the local console. This panel contains instmments that provide the necessary information for start-up and shutdown, and should also include warning and trouble lights. Access must be provided for motor repair and ultimate replacement needs to be considered. If a steam turbine is used, a surface condenser is probably required with a vacuum system to increase the efficiency. AH these additional systems need to be considered in the layout and spacing. In addition, room for pulsation dampeners required between stages has to be included. Aftercoolers may also be required with knockout dmms. Reference 8 describes the requirements of compressor layouts and provides many useful piping hints. [Pg.79]

Other, removable cation-stabilizing auxiliaries have been investigated for polyene cyclizations. For example, a sdyl-assisted carbocation cyclization has been used in an efficient total synthesis of lanosterol. The key step, treatment of (257) with methyl aluminum chloride in methylene chloride at —78° C, followed by acylation and chromatographic separation, affords (258) in 55% yield (two steps). When this cyclization was attempted on similar compounds that did not contain the C7P-silicon substituent, no tetracycHc products were observed. Steroid (258) is converted to lanosterol (77) in three additional chemical steps (225). [Pg.442]

The large variety of displacement-type flmd-transport devices makes it difficult to list characteristics common to each. However, for most types it is correct to state that (1) they are adaptable to high-pressure operation, (2) the flow rate through the pump is variable (auxiliary damping systems may be employed to reduce the magnitude of pressure pulsation and flow variation), (3) mechanical considerations limit maximum throughputs, and (4) the devices are capable of efficient performance at extremely low-volume throughput rates. [Pg.900]

Typical applications for adjustable-voltage, adjustable-speed dc drives include winders, paper machines and auxiliaries, blending systems, feeders, extruders, calendars, machine tools, range and slasher drives, cranes, hoists, shovels and draghnes, and an almost unhmited variety of drives requiring the flexibility and efficiency possible with direct current. [Pg.2487]

Direct-flame afterburners are nearly 100% efficient when properly operated. They can be installed for approximately 350-700 per cubic meter of gas flow. Operating and maintenance costs are essentially those of the auxiliary gas fuel. On larger installations, the overall cost of the afterburner operation may be considerably reduced by using heat recovery equipment as shown in Fig. 29-16. In many industrial situations, boilers or kilns are used as entirely satisfactory afterburners for gases generated in other areas or processes. [Pg.483]

A well-designed auxiliary-air-supplied hood reduces air-conditioning costs and improves hood capture efficiency. The disadvantages of this hood include higher initial cost and maintenance due to the additional replacement air system, the possible introduction of airborne dust into the laboratory, discomfort... [Pg.996]

The advantages of thermal incineration are that it is simple in concept, has a wide application, and results in almost complete destruction of pollutants with no liquid or solid residue. Thermal incineration provides an opportunity for heat recovery and has low maintenance requirements and low capital cost. Thermal incineration units for small or moderate exhaust streams are generally compact and light. Such units can be installed on a roof when the plant area is limited. = The main disadvantage is the auxiliary fuel cost, which is partly offset with an efficient heat-recovery system. The formation of nitric oxides during the combustion processes must be reduced by control of excess air temperature, fuel supply, and combustion air distribution at the burner inlet, The formation of thermal NO increases dramatically above 980 Table 13.10)... [Pg.1256]

If the pumps are located indoors, a Division 1 classification is likely to apply. Motors must be Class 1, group D, explosion-proof, or they may be separately ventilated with clean outside air brought to the motor by fans. Auxiliary devices such as alarm contacts on the motor must be suitable for the area classification. The installed costs, overall efficiencies, and service factors associated with the enclosures that are available will influence the selection. [Pg.416]

Alternatively, the option that a steam plant offers of the provision of process steam coupled with power generation may be the key element in the selection of generating plant. The turbo-generators and their auxiliaries for use in such applications tend therefore to be relatively unsophisticated, with no feed heating, except for probably the provision of a deaerator. Again, in the turbine itself, machine efficiency tends to be sacrificed for robustness and the ability to accommodate varying load conditions. [Pg.202]

The related serine derived (4S)-4-methoxycarbonyl-3-(l-oxopropyl)-2-thiono-l,3-oxazolidine 11, and the cysteine derived (4A)-4-methoxycarbonyl-3-(l-oxobntyl)-2-thiono-1,3-thiazolidine 13, also serve as efficient chiral auxiliaries in boron- and tin(II)-mediated aldol condensations98. Thus, conversion of 11 into the boron or tin enolate, followed by reaction with 2-methylpropanal affords predominantly one adduct. Subsequent methanolysis and chromatographic purification delivers the syu-methyl ester in 98% ee. [Pg.499]

An efficient stereoselective Strecker synthesis of phenylglycine has been achieved using the tert-butyl ester tm-leucine as the chiral auxiliary. Its benzaldimine reacts with hydrogen cyanide in hexane at — 23 °C to furnish the ( )-diastereomer with the excellent diastereoselectivity of >98 254. [Pg.792]

Big-conductance Ca2+ sensitive K+ (BKca) channels are activated by calcium surge and membrane depolarization. BKCa channels are specifically blocked by iberiotoxin and less selectively by charybdotoxin. BKCa channels are composed of pore-forming a and auxiliary (3 subunits. Both BKCa,a andBKca, 3 subunits as well as their efficient coupling in the heteromultimeiic formation of BKca channel complexes are important for the function of BKCa channels. [Pg.271]

Very large, modem WT boilers with sophisticated heat-recovery auxiliaries may attain efficiencies approaching 88 to 90%. However, the overall efficiency of a fossil fuel utility power generation plant system falls to only 32 to 38% when the efficiency of electricity generation and condenser cooling is included. Nevertheless, it only requires 10% more in fuel costs to operate a boiler at 1,250 psig than... [Pg.14]

Auxiliaries are additional boiler fittings that provide controls for ease of operation. They may include additional valves (such as check valves on feed lines, nonreturn valves on steam distribution lines, and the various boiler system drain valves), gauges, connections, and devices to regulate FW, air, and fuel and to provide for the efficient production, pressure, temperature, quality, and flow of HTHW or steam. [Pg.82]

A fundamental problem that occurs even in fully industrialized countries and large international companies, is that whereas many smaller boiler plant managers purchase well-designed and efficient boilers, pumps, and auxiliaries from recognized quality manufacturers and distributors, the design and construction of FW tanks and even the overall boiler house system may be placed in the hands of persons with inadequate training and experience. [Pg.110]

Clay-catalyzed asymmetric Diels-Alder reactions were investigated by using chiral acrylates [10]. Zn(II)- and Ti(IV)-K-10 montmorillonite, calcined at 55 °C, did not efficiently catalyze the cycloadditions of cyclopentadiene (1) with acrylates that incorporate large-size chiral auxiliaries such as cA-3-neopentoxyisobornyl acrylate (2) and (-)-menthyl acrylate (3, R = H) (Figure 4.1). This result was probably due to diffusion problems. [Pg.145]

It is possible to take advantage of the differing characteristics of the periphery and the interior to promote chemical reactions. For example, a dendrimer having a non-polar aliphatic periphery with highly polar inner branches can be used to catalyse unimolecular elimination reactions in tertiary alkyl halides in a non-polar aliphatic solvent. This works because the alkyl halide has some polarity, so become relatively concentrated within the polar branches of the dendrimer. This polar medium favours the formation of polar transition states and intermediates, and allows some free alkene to be formed. This, being nonpolar, is expelled from the polar region, and moves out of the dendrimer and into the non-polar solvent. This is a highly efficient process, and the elimination reaction can be driven to completion with only 0.01 % by mass of a dendrimer in the reaction mixture in the presence of an auxiliary base such as potassium carbonate. [Pg.144]

Chiral phosphoryl and sulfinyl groups are known as efficient auxiliaries in asymmetric synthesis. As reported below, their asymmetric induction in the a-posi-tion has been used to prepare chiral non-racemic organophosphorus compounds a-substituted by a sulfur function. Such compounds can also be obtained from their a-hydroxy analogues by OH-4 SR stereoselective transformation. [Pg.182]
