Other transforms

Apart from the thoroughly studied aqueous Diels-Alder reaction, a limited number of other transformations have been reported to benefit considerably from the use of water. These include the aldol condensation , the benzoin condensation , the Baylis-Hillman reaction (tertiary-amine catalysed coupling of aldehydes with acrylic acid derivatives) and pericyclic reactions like the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and the Qaisen rearrangement (see below). These reactions have one thing in common a negative volume of activation. This observation has tempted many authors to propose hydrophobic effects as primary cause of ftie observed rate enhancements. [Pg.27]

Table 2 summarizes some of the transformations of substituents which have been carried out on azetidines without effect on the ring <79CRV33l). Other transformations of interest are the base catalyzed epimerization, H exchange and alkylation of the activated H-3 in azetidines (26) (69JHC153) and the nitration, reduction, diazotization and hence further modification of the aromatic ring in 3-phenyl-fV-acetylazetidine (27) (61LA 647)83). [Pg.242]

It is possible to assume other transformation properties for k. For example, for some purposes it may be more desirable to attribute strainlike properties obeying a transformation law like (A. 19), in which case the equations of this section will take a somewhat different form. Of course, k may be taken to be comprised of a number of such tensors, and it is not difficult to extend the theory to include a number of indifferent scalars and vectors, if desired. [Pg.157]

Again, other transformation properties might be assumed, and k may be taken to be comprised of a number of such tensors, or to include a number of invariant scalars or vectors. [Pg.163]

Other transformations of the radicals are also possible. For example, the 5-hexenyl radical partially cyclizes in competition with coupling ... [Pg.727]

The energy of the triplet state of the sensitizer ( Sens ) must be greater than that of the reactant. If this condition is not met, the energy transfer becomes endothermic and cannot compete with other transformations of Sens. ... [Pg.746]

There are many transforms which bring about essentially no change in molecular complexity, but which can be useful because they modify a TGT to allow the subsequent application of simplifying transforms. A frequent application of such transforms is to generate the retron for some other transform which can then operate to simplify structure. There are a wide variety of such non-simplifying transforms which can be summarized in terms of the structural change which they effect as follows ... [Pg.11]

In the following table the characters of the principal isomerides and other transformation products of the cinchona alkaloids are summarised and references are given to the chief papers dealing with them, and upon which the foregoing account is based. The capital letters in brackets printed after the names of the substances refer to the formulae and explanatory footnote on p. 449. [Pg.451]

The main oxides are the dioxides. In fact, Ti02 is by far the most important compound formed by the elements of this group, its importance arising predominantly from its use as a white pigment (see Panel, p. 959). It exists at room temperature in three forms — rutile, anatase and brookite, each of which occurs naturally. Each contains 6-coordinate titanium but rutile is the most common form, both in nature and as produced commercially, and the others transform into it on heating. The rutile... [Pg.961]

Some coordinate transformations are non-linear, like transforming Cartesian to polar coordinates, where the polar coordinates are given in terms of square root and trigonometric functions of the Cartesian coordinates. This for example allows the Schrodinger equation for the hydrogen atom to be solved. Other transformations are linear, i.e. the new coordinate axes are linear combinations of the old coordinates. Such transfonnations can be used for reducing a matrix representation of an operator to a diagonal form. In the new coordinate system, the many-dimensional operator can be written as a sum of one-dimensional operators. [Pg.309]

Several modifications of the Feist-Benary furan synthesis have been reported and fall into two general classes 1) reactions that yield furan products 2) reactions that yield dihydrofuran products. One variant that furnishes dihydrofiirans uses substrates identical to the traditional Feist-Benary furan synthesis with a slight modification of the reaction conditions. The other transformations covered in this section involve the combination of P-dicarbonyls with reagents that are not simple a-halocarbonyls. Several reactions incorporate a-halocarbonyl derivatives while others rely on completely different compounds. [Pg.164]

Of great importance for porphyrin chemistry is the introduction of carbon substituents by Vilsmeier formylation100 or Friedel-Crafts acylation.100 The introduced substituents allow further carbon-chain elongations and other transformations so that interesting porphyrin derivatives can be synthesized. The Vilsmeier formylation of copper octaethylporphyrin (5) takes place at themethine position. The copper can then be easily removed by treatment with acid.105... [Pg.605]

It is interesting to notice that the complex 58 is also able to react with soft donor hgands such as triphenylphosphine resulting in the formation in very mild conditions of the unexpected orthometallated complex 59 (Scheme 23) [89,91, 92]. The ligand here is linked to the metal through both an aromatic and an ylidic carbon. Other transformations are realized from 58 leading, including the compounds of the previous scheme, to four different structures for the bis-ylide (i) C,C-chelate (ii) C,C-orthometallated (iii) C,C-orthometallated and free ylide (iv) C,C,C-terdentate (Scheme 23). [Pg.58]

Two factors will be discussed here 11-hydroxysulfate epimerization and sulfa-mate hydrolysis. Other transformations, mediated by shellfish or bacteria, are possible and the saxitoxins are also subject to gross decomposition, resulting in non toxic products. These factors will complicate the picture slightly, but not alter the basic point. [Pg.45]

The amino acid sequence of the human erythrocyte glucose transporter was deduced from the nucleotide sequence of a cDNA clone in 1985 [106]. Polyclonal antibodies raised against the protein were used to screen a Xgtl I cDNA library prepared from the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2. (Like many other transformed... [Pg.185]

The enyne cross metathesis was first developed in 1997 [170,171]. Compared to CM it benefits from its inherent cross-selectivity and in theory it is atom economical, though in reality the aUcene cross-partner is usually added in excess. The inabihty to control product stereochemistry of ECM reactions is the main weakness of the method. ECM reactions are often directly combined with other transformations like cyclopropanation [172], Diels-Alder reactions [173], cychsations [174] or ring closing metathesis [175]. [Pg.97]

K v,t) is called the transform kernel. For the Fourier transform the kernel is e j ". Other transforms (see Section 40.8) are the Hadamard, wavelet and the Laplace transforms [4]. [Pg.517]

There are other transformations, too, e.g. Laplace transformation which is frequently used in technical systems. [Pg.76]

In addition to the three methods described above, nonlinear regression methods or other transform approaches may be used to determine the dispersion parameter. For a more complete treatment of the use of transform methods, consult the articles by Hopkins et al. (15) and Ostergaard and Michelsen (14). [Pg.403]

The obtained spiro keto esters 2-181 could be converted into 2-183, employing among other transformations an intramolecular Schmidt rearrangement [101] of the azido ketones 2-182. [Pg.75]

As with all-carbon Diels-Alder reactions, the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction [41] can also be used as the first step in many combinations with other transformations. In contrast to the normal Diels-Alder reaction, several examples are known where the first step is followed by a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. This type of domino reaction has been especially investigated by Denmark and coworkers, and used for the synthesis of several complex natural products. Since Denmark has reviewed his studies in... [Pg.296]

The synthesis of aldehydes from alkenes known as hydroformylation using CO and hydrogen and a homogeneous catalyst is a very important industrial process [204]. Today, over seven million tons of oxoproducts are formed each year using this procedure, with the majority of butanal and butanol from propene. To further increase the efficiency of this process it can be combined with other transformations in a domino fashion. Eilbracht and coworkers [205] used a Mukaiyama aldol reaction as a second step, as shown for the substrate 6/2-63 which, after 3 days led to 6/2-65 in 91% yield via the primarily formed adduct 6/2-64 (Scheme 6/2.13). However, employing a reaction time of 20 h gave 6/2-64 as the main product. [Pg.431]

QR Factorization of a Matrix If A is an m x n matrix with m > n, there exists inmxji unitary matrix = [qij q2,..., q ] and an m X n right triangular matrix R such that A = QR. The OR factorization is frequently used in the actual computations when the other transformations are unstable. [Pg.42]

Other transformations supplied by these enzymes are para-ortho-hydrogen conversion, and the exchange reaction between H2 and protons of water.409-412 The hydrogenase enzymes found in various microorganisms are very different in their protein structure and in the types of electron carrier they use. [Pg.130]
