Drain valves

The filters should be located downstream of the coolers and should be equipped with a vent and orificed fill line to permit air removal prior to being put into service to prevent shocking the system. External lifts for the filter covers should be furnished if the covers are too heavy for an operator to safely handle. A suggested weight is 35 pounds, deferring however to operator safety. An adequate valved drain should be furnished for each filter body to permit easy removal of dirty oil and sludge.

To ensure proper drainage, inspection personnel must examine overhead piping for proper pitch. Sprinkler systems are designed to drain back to the sprinkler riser, where a 2 in (5.1 cm) valve drain outlet is provided. When this is not possible and some piping is trapped, supplementary low point drain valves should be provided. Low-point drains should be shown on the system drawings. 

Use Spark-resistant tools, springs, fourdrinier wire, paint, cosmetics (as powder), electrical hardware, vacuum dryers, blenders, water gauges, flow indicators, valves, drain cocks, fine arts. 

Provision of pressure relief valves, drains, and so on is mandatory. 

The acid (chemical) sewer should be designed to collect heavily-contaminated, corrosive process chemical wastes which occur as spillage, leakage and valved drains at process equipment and pumps. 

These would include process piping, valving, drains, byp ses, vents, etc., as well as the process equipment requirements. Such flow sheet-s arc useful for plant construction work. 

Block valves on lines feeding the column should be located so that the piping sections upstream of the valve drain back to the upstream unit. The incident described in Fig. 13.2 is a classic illustration of the importance of this rule. 

Effective drainage of the entire plane structure is important in preventing fluids from becoming trapped in crevices. The entire lower pressurized fuselage is drained by a system of valved drain holes. The fluids are directed to the drain holes by a system of longitudinal and cross-drained paths through the stringers and frame shear clips.

If line pluggage is a recurring problem, it is best to try and identify ways in which the problem can be prevented from occurring. If that solution is not possible, then valves, drains, tees, and connections should be designed so that it is possible to remove the pluggage safely and with minimum time and expense.
