Automatic pumping

Calibrate the detector tube pump for proper volume measurement at least quarterly. Simply connect the pump directly to the bubble meter with a detector mbe in-line. Use a detector mbe and pump from the same manufacturer. Wet the inside of the 100 cc bubble meter with soap solution. For volume calibration, experiment to get the soap bubble even with the zero ml mark of the buret. For piston-type pumps, pull the pump handle all the way out (full pump stroke) and note where the soap bubble stops for bellows-type pumps, compress the bellows fully for automatic pumps, program the pump to take a full pump stroke. [Pg.249]

Before the steam engine was invented, there were no automatic pumps to draw well water or engines to propel cars or trains. Since their conception in the 1660s, steam engines have evolved, been improved, and, in some cases, even been replaced, but they are still very much a part of industrial society. [Pg.85]

Sometimes, harmful substances are released into a water body for short periods, but only at irregular intervals. In such situations event-controlled sampling is useful (Figure 1.3).7 When some selected parameter (e.g., conductivity and temperature) reaches its threshold value, then an automatic pump sampler is switched on and a sample is collected. [Pg.4]

Starch slurry make-down systems are designed to prepare a uniform suspension, using batch or continuous systems. In modem paper mills, automated batch or continuous systems are used. Water content and bulk density will affect the flow of dry starch.90 In the batch slurry system, weighed increments of starch are drawn from the silo and periodically added to a measured quantity of water in the make-up tank. The suspension is screened and automatically pumped to a larger storage tank on demand by a level transmitter. Continuous make-down of starch slurry is accomplished by simultaneously feeding starch and water at controlled rates into the slurry make-down tank. The dry starch is metered with a volumetric screw feeder. The slurry is screened before dispersion by batch or continuous cooking. [Pg.673]

Lake Sources. To get water for its Whiting plant, Carbide Carbon ran an intake pipe 700 ft out into Lake Michigan and put in an automatic pumping station. At Painesville, Ohio, Diamond Alkali takes 100 mgd and Industrial Rayon 30 mgd from Lake Erie. At Ashtabula, Ohio, Union Carbide s Electromet Division gets 7 mgd from Lake Erie, and National Distillers is pumping 5 mgd for various uses in its sodium plant. [Pg.278]

King and Hirt [20] have described an instrument called a Spectrotitrimeter, which offers a rapid and accurate determination of dissociation constants. A titration flask combined with a pH meter and a spectrometer with an automatic pump as described by Rehm et al. [21] will serve the same purpose. [Pg.181]

A volume of wine is pumped into the treatment vat and then into the diluate circuit of the electrodialysis cells. When conductivity reaches the set point, determined by an instability test, the wine is automatically pumped into a reception vat using a system controlled by solenoid valves. A new volume of wine is then pumped into the system and stabilized under the same conditions. Treatment time and, consequently, the performance of the system depend on the wine s degree of instability. Treatment flow rates vary from 50 to 150 1/h/m, depending on this parameter. The concentrate circuit consists of a saline solution that collects the ions extracted from the wine. The ion load is adjusted by adding water to avoid the precipitation of bitartrate crystals inside the small, easily blocked cells. This function is also automatically controlled by conductivity measurements. [Pg.384]

A low-pressure glass fiber polyester spray plant also gives low styrene emission and little mist formation. Resin and hardener are mixed and an automatic pump delivers safe exact proportions of peroxide from original containers, no peroxide being dispersed in the air. The German Technical Monitoring Service has confirmed an emission of only 5 ppm and low-pressure equipment with internal mixing also ensures that no peroxide is freely dispersed into the air. [Pg.298]

Grade III Single water supply from town mains or automatic pump... [Pg.538]

Superior water supplies comprise town mains, automatic pump supply, elevated private storage, gravity tank, pressure tank. [Pg.538]

The water supply for a sprinkler system must be reliable, automatic, capable of supplying the flow of water at the appropriate pressure and not subject to freezing or drought. The supply source can be town mains, automatic pumped, elevated private reservoir, gravity tank or pressure tank. Where pumps are used at least two must be installed, one working and one spare, from separate power supplies, e.g. electric and diesel, and automatic start-up. The water within the system must be free from debris which may block the sprinkler heads. The amount of water and its pressure is a function of the hazard rating of the fire risk and is given in Table 25.9. [Pg.541]

Heaters specifically designed and approved for use with separate supply tanks may be directly connected for gravity feed, or an automatic pump, from a supply tank. [Pg.404]

Another approach is to measure pH and blood gases using a paracorporeal measurement at the patient s bedside. The sensors are three fluorescent-sensing materials responsive to each of the blood gases. The sensors are placed into an external tube connected to an arterial blood line. Blood samples are periodically and automatically pumped into the tube, analyzed by the sensors, and then returned to the blood line. In this way, the blood can be monitored... [Pg.111]
