Atopic syndrome

Most genuine allergic diseases seen in the majority of practices are due to IgE-mediated sensitivity and are related to the atopic syndrome. Atopy... [Pg.6]

In addition to SFPs, enterotoxins may participate in the development of atopic eczema (Morishita et ah, 1999 Wehner and Neuber, 2001) and menstrual toxic-shock syndrome (MTSS) (Morishita et ah, 1999). [Pg.210]

Eleven of 15 workers who were exposed to HMDI showed allergic and nonallergic skin reactions. Six suffered from vertigo with or without headaches, and four showed obstructive ventilatory disorders, tachycardia, and hypotension (EGG normal). All were treated with oral antihistamines and local steroid application. The signs of the intoxication disappeared after 10-14 days of treatment. There was no difference in the clinical syndrome between the atopic and the nonatopic workers. [Pg.469]

Gamma-linolenic acid (18 3n-6) is an important unsaturated fatty acid. It is the precursor for biosynthesis of arachidonic acid that is a precursor for prostaglandin formation. Recently, y-linolenic acid has been recognized for its potential health benefits in prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disorders, premenstrual syndrome, atopic eczema, rheumatic arthritis, and alcoholism (13, 14). Seed oils of blackcurrant and other Ribes species, as well as evening primrose seed oils, are rich sources of natural y-linolenic acid. [Pg.1599]

The vanishing bile duct syndrome has been associated with the use of ibuprofen in an atopic man, but the causal relation was not certain (19). [Pg.1711]

The seeds of Oenothera biennis (evening primrose, fever plant, king s cure-all, night willow herb, scabish, sundrop, tree primrose) yield evening primrose oil, which contains gamma-linolenic acid and has been used in various disorders, such as atopic eczema, premenstrual syndrome, and benign breast pain, but is probably not efficacious (1,2). [Pg.2618]

In 255 children with atopic dermatitis, tacrolimus 0.1% ointment caused transient skin burning and itching as the most common adverse events (65). Two patients required hospital admittance to control skin infections. A flu-like syndrome was the major non-topical adverse event. [Pg.3285]

Atopic allergy can occur (RIO). Recorded complications include arthritis (G16), malignant disease (Mil), dermatomyositis (RIO), a neurological syndrome (Mil), and amyloid some 19% of patients experience reactions to immunoglobulins. [Pg.247]
