Color. Color is deterrnined through the use of a Nessler-type visual color comparator as described in ASTM Designation D1209. [Pg.35]

Water. Water is determined by Kad Fischer titration using ASTM Designation D1744. [Pg.35]

Specific Gravity. The specific gravity is determined by weighing a known volume of sample in a Lipkin bicapiHary pycnometer as described in ASTM Designation D941. [Pg.35]

Third Monomers. In order to achieve certain property improvements, nitrile mbber producers add a third monomer to the emulsion polymerization process. When methacrylic acid is added to the polymer stmcture, a carboxylated nitrile mbber with greatly enhanced abrasion properties is achieved (9). Carboxylated nitrile mbber carries the ASTM designation of XNBR. Cross-linking monomers, eg, divinylbenzene or ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, produce precross-linked mbbers with low nerve and die swell. To avoid extraction losses of antioxidant as a result of contact with fluids duriag service, grades of NBR are available that have utilized a special third monomer that contains an antioxidant moiety (10). FiaaHy, terpolymers prepared from 1,3-butadiene, acrylonitrile, and isoprene are also commercially available. [Pg.522]

In this chapter brief consideration has been given to the major tonnage mbbers. Derivatives of natural mbber such as ebonite are discussed in Chapter 30 and thermoplastic rubbers are reviewed in Chapter 31. Other important speciality mbbers (with their ASTM designations) include ... [Pg.309]

Plastic whose apparent modulus of elasticity is not greater than 10,000 psi at room temperature in accordance with the Standard Method of Test for Stiffness in Flexure of Plastics (ASTM Designation D747). [Pg.136]

The ASTM designation E 386-90 Standard Practice for Data Presentation Relating to High-resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy is the valid regulation procedure in NMR. [Pg.330]

Carbon blacks are principally made by the chemical decomposition of natural gas or oil. Two classes predominate the furnace blacks (95% of black usage) which are active, and thermal blacks (5% of usage) which are inactive. There are a substantial number of blacks for special applications such as electrically conducting and printing ink blacks. The latter are of too fine a particle size for rubber use. The nomenclature used for carbon blacks includes the ASTM designation and the industry type as illustrated in the next table. [Pg.142]

ASTM. 1991. Standard practice for sampling and analysis of pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyis in indoor atmospheres. American Society for Testing and Materials. ASTM designation D4861-91. p366-379. [Pg.236]

Notice however that for several common metal alloys (Mg, Al, Fe, etc.) special designation codes are used. As an example of the standard ASTM designation system, the codes used for the commercial magnesium alloys are shown in 5.12.4.5. [Pg.321]

The ASTM designation code of the Mg alloys consists of a string of characters composed by four subsequent parts having the following meanings ... [Pg.479]
