Association for Manufacturing Excellence

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to facilitate a kaizen blitz (rapid continuous improvement) event as an AME (Association for Manufacturing Excellence) volunteer. Team-based kaizen events are the perfect training method to help leaders understand lean leadership. This event was not at the manufacturing plant in which I worked, but in one that had volunteered to host this three-day kaizen event. It was one of my first experiences at facilitation of a kaizen blitz and having that responsibility in someone else s plant really accelerated my learning curve. 

AME Association for Manufacturing Excellence. This not-for-profit organization was founded in 1985 and is dedicated to helping companies with continuous improvement and their pursuit of excellence.

Who are the usual attendees sent to workshops and conferences My observation is that they are managers and professional staff. Each year I attend the largest Lean conference in the world. The Association for Manufacturing Excellence sponsors it and each year approximately 2,000 people are in attendance. The associates who work with their hands to make the products in the companies represented at this conference are a small fraction of the total attendance number. Why is it that companies who are on the Lean journey, and understand that they have to engage their employees to realize Lean success, do not send the people who work with their hands to these events If you want everyone to think like the managers of the business, then I believe you need to expose everyone, or at least some of them, to the same experiences as the managers. This simple act can accelerate the Lean journey for any business. At this site, I had the opportunity to interact with and influence...

A code developed for the Chemical Manufacturers Association by HydroQual (SLSA, or Simplified Lake and Stream Analyzer 38, 39) deserves careful study for its insightful exploration of the general characteristics of the behavior of hydrophobic materials in aquatic systems. In 1996, Mr. Kenkel won the prestigious National Responsible Care Catalyst Award for excellence in chemistry teaching, sponsored by the Chemical Manufacturer s Association. He has a master s degree in chemistry from the University of Texas in Austin (1972) and a bachelor s degree in chemistry from Iowa State University (1970). His research at the University of Texas was directed by Professor Allen Bard. He was employed as a chemist from 1973 to 1977 at Rockwell International s Science Center in Thousand Oaks, California. 

Often troubleshooting guides are provided by equipment manufacturers for common problems. These guides are helpful for many of the simpler problems associated with the equipment. Some resin manufacturers are an excellent resource for troubleshooting processing problems that are specific to a resin. Subject matter experts or extrusion consultants are also resources for troubleshooting an extrusion process. 

The famous Chinese firecracker uses a mixture of potassium chlorate, sulfur, and aluminum. The chlorate combined with sulfur makes this mixture doubly dangerous for the manufacturer. The ignition temperature of the potassium chlorate/sulfur system is less than 200°C The presence of aluminum - an excellent fuel - guarantees that the pyrotechnic reaction will rapidly propagate once it begins. Safety data from China is unavailable, but one has to wonder how many accidents occur annually from the preparation of this firecracker composition. The preparation of potassium chlorate/sulfur compositions was banned in Great Britain in 1894 because of the numerous accidents associated with this mixture ... 

Alumina-supported nickel catalysts are an excellent example for the advantages of and the problems associated with coprecipitation processes for the manufacture of catalysts. Such catalysts are accessible via several pathways, as impregnation, deposition/precip-itation, coprecipitation from alumina gels, and more conventional coprecipitation routes.
