Association array assignment

Mass concentration of inhalable particles is only one measure of a complex mixture of gaseous and particulate air pollution to which people are exposed. PM 10 includes a wide array of potentially toxic chemical species. Therefore, it is presumptuous to assign these observed health effects solely to the mass concentration of particulates. On the other hand, the consistency of these observed effects across so many communities suggests that, lacking an explicit hypothesis, these associations are assigned to a nonspecific definition of inhalable or fine particle concentrations common to urban areas. [Pg.697]

VT 13C and 31P NMR studies have shown that the C2 unit undergoes a rapid fluxional process, assigned to a rotation within the Cu4 array with associated flipping of the dppm ligands. Coalescence of the 31P resonances found at 8 —9.6 (P attached to n-bonded Cu) and —12.3 (P attached to a-bonded Cu) occurred at 182 K, while the carbon resonances in the 13C-enriched complex coalesced at 208 K to give a nine-line resonance at 8 149.4 [/(CP) 13.3 Hz]. For the two processes, AG values of ca. 38 and 47 kJ mol-1 were measured. The relatively facile process is indicative of a weak interaction between the C2 ligand and the four copper atoms, which was confirmed by DFT calculations (calc. AG 32.9 kJ mol-1). The UV-vis spectrum contains bands at 262 (dppm intra-ligand transfer), 374 nm (C2 —> Cu4 LMCT), while excitation (X > 350 nm) produces intense... [Pg.397]

In the analysis of family pedigrees it is usually possible by inspection of RFLP markers to phase or assign each to a specific chromosome. The array of RFLPs constitutes a haplotype unique to that chromosome. For many disorders, even those for which multiple mutations have been defined, within a given population or ethnic group a few specific mutations usually predominate (14). Generally each is associated with a distinctive haplotype of 2 or more RFLP markers. For example, functionally identical intervening sequence 1 splice site mutations in individuals of Mediterranean and Indian bacl round carry completely different RFLP haplotypes (13). Similarly, two RFLP markers proved use-... [Pg.138]

Earlier observations by Cesario et al. [60] of a decay in fluorescence for arrays of Au nanoparticles spaced above a Ag film by a Si02 layer of increasing thickness, were interpreted as due to the finite vertical extent of the evanescent fields associated with a surface plasmon. In this model the coupling results in an enhanced interaction between individual localized plasmons at individual nanostructures [61] and thus an enhancement in the radiative efficiency increasing the spacer layer thickness moves the nanowires out of the evanescent field of the surface plasmon. A possible physical mechanism for the experimentally observed decay involves nonradiative decay of the excited states. The aluminum oxide deposited in these experiments was likely to be nonstoichio-metric, and defects in the oxide could act as recombination centers. Thicker oxides would result in higher areal densities of defects, and decay in fluorescence. A definitive assignment of the mechanism for the observed fall off of fluorescence would require determination of the complex dielectric function of our oxides (as deposited onto an Ag film), and inclusion in the field-square calculations. Finally it should be noted that at very small thicknesses quenching of the fluorescence is expected [38,62] consistent with observations of an optimum nanowire-substrate spacer thickness. [Pg.314]

In an aggregate assignment expression, each element of the array is individually assigned its value using a list format. The array could be composed of BIT, INTEGER or any other synthesizable elements. In the two examples above, the use of positional association is demonstrated - the physical position of an expression in the list determines which element in the array is assigned the value. The two examples below illustrate named association. [Pg.115]

An integer must be used to denote the array position of an element and the same position index must not be repeated. Remember that whichever assignment method is used, each element s expression must evaluate to the same type as the target. It is possible to mix positional and named association in the same list. However, position-associated elements must precede all name-associated elements, limiting the usefulness of this approach. [Pg.115]

The form of aggregate assignment shown in this example associates elements of the array with particular values by the position of the values in the list. It is also possible to form this association by name. Positional and named association can be used in many different types of list, as later ex-... [Pg.116]
