Independent assessment

Some countries may carry out the assessment independently, while others request decisions from other countries, particularly for imported products. [Pg.84]

This system has been widely used in uptake experiments to study transporter function. As Glazier et al. [47] have pointed out, an advantage of the system is that transporter function can be assessed independently of the contributions of metabolic systems. A disadvantage, however, is that all transporter regulatory mechanisms (many of which may be intracellular) are not preserved in this system, thus making the extrapolation of the results to in vivo situations somewhat difficult. [Pg.374]

A particular psychopathological condition should of course be scrutinized as to symptomatology and a variety of nonsymptomatological variables, such as duration, severity, cyclicity, premorbid personality pathology, family loading, preceding life events, and others. These nonsymptomatological variables should be assessed independent of the syndrome and independent of each other until predictable mutual relationships have been established. [Pg.46]

There are a number of strategies that can be employed to assess the collective environmental risk associated with a process. A number of general areas should be considered as part of the overall assessment, independently of whatever strategy is chosen, such as consideration of... [Pg.43]

Clearly, there is an infinite number of variations of the physical form of the catalyst which may be employed. One of the major problems is the production of a reproducible metal surface. Irreproducibility may be due to any one of a number of factors, the following being some of the more important ones (a) variations in the degree of cleanliness and state of reduction of the surface (b) variation in the degree of exposure of certain crystallographic planes (c) variation in the concentration of surface defects and (d) variation in the distribution of particle sizes. Most of these factors are not readily controllable and may not be without effect upon the rate and mechanism of the reaction being catalysed it is important, therefore, that the effects of each of the variables is assessed independently. [Pg.3]

Sample preparation in NLC and NCE is the most important step in analysis due to the nano nature of these modalities. The sampling should be carried out in such a way as to avoid changes in the chemical composition of the sample. The quantitative values of species depend on the strategy adopted in sample preparation. Extraction recoveries may vary from one species to another and they should, consequently, be assessed independently for each compound as well as for the compounds together. Materials with an integral analyte, that is, bound to the matrix in the same way as the unknown, which is preferably labeled (radioactive labeling) would be necessary, which is called method validation. As discussed above few papers described off- and online sample preparation methods on microfluidic devices. Of course, online methods are superior due to lower risk of contamination and error of methods. Not much work been carried out on online nanosample preparation devices, which need more research. Briefly, to get maximum extraction of analytes, sample preparation should be handled very carefully. [Pg.138]

The suspicion that Schrodinger s interpretation of wave mechanics was suppressed and rejected by quantum physicists for non-scientific reasons, is inescapable. Because of this inherent bias the form of wave mechanics which became established as the basis of theoretical chemistry has, understandably, never been assessed independently for this purpose. The point electron that jumps between quantum states with statistical probability fails to explain chemical behaviour with the same authority that it enjoys in physics. Nevertheless, the Schrodinger alternative is dismissed out of hand by chemists. A typical expert on quantum chemistry declares [33] ... [Pg.97]

In August 1995, following the announcement in June 1995 of a final series of eight underground nuclear tests at the South Pacific site, the French Government submitted a written request to the IAEA to assess independently the radiological consequences of the nuclear tests at Mururoa and Fangataufa atolls, and undertook to provide information needed for the assessment. [Pg.549]

Further consideration suggests that it may indeed be inappropriate to assess independently the apparently separate issues of bioconcentration and metabolism. Experiments on bioconcentration are generally designed so that exposure is continued until an apparent steady state is achieved the test organisms are then generally maintained in the absence of the test compound to evaluate clearance by depuration. It would therefore be particularly attractive to combine these investigations with metabolic studies in which the nature of the metabolites is identified although this seems only seldom to have been carried out. [Pg.143]

Independent quality assurance audits of sampling sites. This should be conducted in order to (1) assess independently the accuracy and completeness of cvu rent site documentation, and (2) to assess the representativeness of each site with respect to its monitoring objectives. Site representativeness could be checked by looking at data for a number of physical parameters (turbidity, pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen). [Pg.4091]

Advantages ( ) only physical and chemical data are required to estimate the phenomena vectors, which are independent of the structural design of the unit and (n) this approach allows the designer to assess independently the effect of equipment structure and operating policies on the composition change in RD. [Pg.59]

Body composition was performed with the validated DXA methodology that scanned the whole body of each subject (21). Since it is considered to be the most reliable methodology in evaluating body composition, DXA is used extensively to detect osteoporosis. Each scan gave the content of the whole body of bone mineral mass (BMM), BFM, and LBM (LBM including both muscles and water), while body weight and BMI were assessed independently. [Pg.249]

The nutrient environment for acceptable cell growth is basically simple, yet specifically complex. The cellular milieu must address numerous physical and chemical factors, including temperature, osmotic pressure, hydrogen ion concentration (pH), and the presence of inorganic salts, essential (and nonessential) amino acids, vitamins, dissolved gasses, and other unidentified growth materials provided through supplementation(s). Each of these interdependent requirements had to be assessed, independently and jointly, to ascertain optimal nutrient levels. [Pg.453]

The n-layer treatment mentioned above takes an account of the forces of capillary condensation. In 1940, Brunauer, Deming, Doming and Teller [132] were able to extend the BET theory by introducing an additional contribution to the energy of adsorption resulting from these forces. The so-called BDDT equation, contrary to the BET isotherm, can be applied over a wider range of relative pressures. This equation, however, is rather complex and contains four adjustable parameters which cannot be assessed independently. For this reason, this is seldom applied and only a few attempts have been made to use the equation under consideration [95,118],... [Pg.15]

Operating systems (OS) are common to almost all computing platforms including those used in safety related systems (SRS). OS are commercial components and, as with other off the shelf components, there can be significant difficulties in assessing their dependability cost-effectively. An OS provides a broad range of support services to application software, hence it cannot easily be assessed independently of the services of the application it supports. Also many of the functions of the OS are at a low level, but are so influential to the operation of the system that they become an intrinsic aspect of deployment risk for those systems. Thus we require a specialised approach to assessing dependability of OS. [Pg.195]
