Asphalt latex

Salts of a-sulfo fatty acid esters can work as emulsifying agents for the preparation of asphalt emulsions and asphalt-latex emulsions. The ester sulfonates improve the storage stability of the emulsions [101,102]. In the manufacture of lightweight gypsum products air bubbles have to be mixed into the slurries. The use of salts of sulfonated C10 l8 fatty acid alkyl esters as foaming agents produces uniformly distributed fine bubbles [103]. Salts of C10 16 fatty acid alkyl ester sulfonates can also be added to cement mixtures to prevent slump loss of the mixtures [104]. [Pg.491]

Admixtures are sometimes used to reduce permeabiUty of concrete (80—82). These iaclude pore-filling materials such as chalk. Fuller s earth, or talc water repellents such as mineral oil, asphalt, or wax emulsions organic polymers (acryflc latexes, epoxies) and salts of fatty acids, especially stearates. [Pg.311]

A large apphcation of latex is in blends with asphalt to produce a waterproof membrane on cinder block and concrete walls. Here, as well as when incorpevated into concrete mortars, the rubber fraction produces better adhesion, durability, and temperature expansion tolerance than the asphalt or mortar base alone. [Pg.313]

In order to modify asphalt, 100% acrylic latex is used. Special latices are marketed for this purpose. The latex can be post-added to asphalt emulsion followed by agitation to prevent stratification. [Pg.122]

Generally, modification is made by adding approximately a 15% level of acrylic latex. Modified asphalt displays improved properties. Acrylic-modified asphalts are used for parking lots, driveways, low-voliune off-highway streets and highway shoulders. [Pg.122]

Quarry Tile Tile is used in much of the food process and food preparation areas, also toilet and change areas. In general, it is installed without an asphaltic membrane but with a thin adhesive membrane usually an epoxy type. As noted above, the concrete substrate must be true to line without irregularities such as humps and bumps. All such flaws will telegraph through to the finished surface. Cleanliness is a major attribute of the quarry tile installation. For example, in a synthetic elastomer plant the raw latex when spilled stuck tightly to the concrete floors. Quarry tile was used with an epoxy bed and a furan joint (very narrow, Vie"). Due to the greater density of the quarry tile the unvulcanized material cleaned up easily. [Pg.56]

Ash is a chemically stable inorganic material. Thus, there is a potential for their application as a construction material. Possible applications of ashes reported in the literature include asphalt, cement concrete block, road construction, and melt slag (1-3). Recently, we carried out studies on the possible application of ashes from incinerated paper sludges for interlocking blocks. Acrylic latex was employed to improve the properties of cement mortar or concrete modified with ashes. Our results are partly reported in this paper. [Pg.203]

Floor underlayments are utilized to produce a level and smooth surface before placing vinyl tile, asphalt tile, rubber tile, or other resilient flooring materials. Acrylic latex modified underlayments are ideally suitable for leveling floors prior to the installation of these surfacing materials, since these underlayments provide an excellent substrate for bonding purposes, as well as offering good chemical resistance to tile adhesives and solvents which some of them contain. [Pg.93]

Synthetic turf. The feasibility of using shredded scrap rubber as a component in synthetic tmf for play grounds, factory floors, and park paths had also been investigated. The product Tire Turf was prepared by mixing shredded scrap tires with a binder such as polyurethane, latex, or asphalt... [Pg.178]
