Lithium Hypochlorite. Lithium hypochlorite [13840-33-0], LiOCl, is obtained from reaction of chlorine and an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide. The soHd is usually obtained as a dry stable product containing other alkaH haHdes and sulfates (64). A product containing 35% available chlorine is used for sanitizing appHcations in swimming pools and in food preparation areas where its rapid and complete dissolution is important. The salt can also be obtained in higher purity by reaction of lithium hydroxide and hypochlorous acid (65). [Pg.226]

You could visit earth, hire a mechanical workshop in a remote area, car-jack a few specimens, and dissect them. You would observe that cars differ in their colour, shape, size and spec. Some may even contain a bar, cinema or swimming pool, but, perhaps, limousines are excluded from your exploration. On closer examination you would notice small ID-numbers imprinted on various strategic body parts. In short - you would find no two cars that are exactly the same. [Pg.128]

Additionally, some departments require candidates to climb a ladder, lift a pneumatic spreader to several different positions, and even to swim a certain distance or tread water for a certain time (this is most often found in areas with access to open waterways or where swimming pools are common). [Pg.334]

Chlorine is a yellow-green gas that is very reactive. Both ozone and chlorine are used to kill bacteria and generally sanitize public areas such as swimming pools and hospital rooms. [Pg.78]

As part of a study of the persistence of silvex in water, the PGBE ester was applied as an emulsion. The ester is distributed as a 64.5% concentrate (42.8% acid equivalent). In this study, floating masses of alligatorweed (Altemanthera philoxeroides [Mart.] Griseb.) contained in 1500-gallon plastic swimming pools, were sprayed. To simulate natural conditions, the bottoms of the pools were covered with a 4 to 5-inch thick layer of soils, the tanks were filled with water, alligatorweed was added, and the system was allowed to equilibrate for 3 months prior to treatment. Three different soil types—Piedmont, Coastal Plains, and Florida muck—taken from their representative areas in the southeastern United States, were used as discrete bottom muds. [Pg.209]

Choose one item from the list of features and craft a statement that represents the current reality. Often, this statement reflects a poorly satisfied customer expectation, or a job the solution has trouble fulfilling. Or it could be something taken for granted or rarely questioned. The Private Pools team, for example, chose the statement private swimming pools require a large outdoor area. Bypassing this traditional notion could extend the reach of the company s product to people who don t have large backyards, or who live in a climate with cold winters. [Pg.128]

Extract a Concept Determine the concept behind the Provocative Thought and use this as the basis to generate new ideas. For instance, the team could use its Reversal PT (a large outdoor area requires a swimming pool) to extract the concept of building pools in large outdoor areas such as front yards, rooftops, and parks. [Pg.130]

In addihon to potable water and wastewater treatments, UV process can also be used for storm runoff treatment, combined sewer overhow (CSO) treatment, swimming pool water disinfechon, and groundwater decontamination. The readers are referred to another book for more informahon on the applications of UV process in the area of environmental protechon. [Pg.348]

A swimming pool in the neighborhood of a smelter receives atmospheric S02 deposition the average concentration over the pool is 300 /xg S02/ m3. If S02 deposition velocity is 1.2 cm/sec and all S02 deposited on the pool is transformed to H2S04, how much NaOH must be added to the pool (moles per square meter of surface area) weekly to neutralize the H2S04 and prevent the pool from becoming acidified ... [Pg.404]

The presence of institutions (such as hospitals, nursing homes, retirement centers, schools, day-care centers, and prisons) parks and recreational areas (such as stadiums and swimming pools) and major commercial, office, and industrial buildings (such as shopping malls and industrial parks) within the circle. Some schools and hospitals are shown on U.S. Geological Survey maps, and the locations of other concentrations of population generally may be found on local street maps. The EPA standard does not require a determination of the population at these locations. [Pg.1446]
