Private statement

The flaws in the FDA s systems have been twofold. First, the cosmetic secrets system has not given adequate consideration to private statements showing confidential status. Second, the central agency staff must know how many exceptions have been allowed, to whom and for what. If the procedure is unfair or if exceptions cannot be catalogued, then the agency cannot manage its workload and the submitter cannot be adequately listened to. But these problems can be worked out within the EEC structure, and chemists familiar with the EEC inventory process should aid in the letter exceptions process. [Pg.138]

Kissinger-Zhou conversation, 21 October 1971, in Private Statements made by PRC Leaders to Secretary Kissinger or President Nixon regarding the Peaceful Liberation of Taiwan, ca. 1974, Box 373, Lord Files. This portion of the dialogue is not included in the declassified transcripts of the October 1971 trip that I have used, which were marked... [Pg.195]

This paragraph was undoubtedly a success in terms of clever wording. The last sentence clearly indicated U.S. acceptance that the Taiwan issue was an internal Chinese affair, but offered the caveat that a resolution should be peaceful. The paragraph was clearer on the issue of territorial integrity the Nixon administration did not dispute the Chinese position that Taiwan was part of China. This was consistent with, if more taciturn than, Kissinger s private statement to Zhou in July 1971 that we are not advocating a two Chinas solution or a one China, one Taiwan solution. He had then added the personal prediction that Taiwan s political evolution was likely to be in the direction which the Prime Minister indicated - that is, unification rather than independence. 5... [Pg.201]

John Bardeen was a truly remarkable scientist, and also a very private, taciturn man. Pippard (1995) in his obituary of Bardeen, recounts how John returned home from the Bell Labs and walked into the kitchen to say We discovered something today to (his wife) Jane s regret, all she could find in reply to what proved a momentous statement was That s interesting, but I have to get dinner on the table . ... [Pg.259]

Actually this statement is not quite correct because a state of the physical system is represented by each observer not by a vector in his (private) Hilbert space, but by a ray, since the normalization and phase of the state is not pertinent to the description of the state. What one has, therefore, is a correspondence between rays rather them between vectors. We shall, however, ignore this fact in the interests of simplicity. Its relevance to the present discussion is fully treated by E. P. Wigner, Nuovo Cimento, 3, 517 (1956) Rev. Mod. Phys., 29, 255 (1957) and Group Theory, Academic Press, New York, 1959. [Pg.667]

Overcoming this challenge requires the firm to pay attention to cultural mechanisms that promote explication of private knowledge for others to use in the future. Such cultural mechanisms are evident within Infosys in statements such as Every instance of learning within Infosys should be available to every employee, Learn once, Use anywhere, and If you can help a colleague, you should. They are also evident in the nested co-mentorship processes wherein leaders are willing to listen and learn (Leonard, 1998 265) even as they teach those under them. [Pg.234]

In a similar vein, a person s signature reveals their ego in a more publie venue. Beeause people are aware their signatures will be judged as an extension of themselves, people often "doctor up" their signatures trying to make some kind of statement. It is for this reason that I rarely rely on just a signature alone to make an accurate assessment about a celebrity. Our public persona is usually a bit different than our private persona. [Pg.109]

If you are writing your paper about President John F. Kennedy, it might be important for you to include his personal statements about his final days in the White House. Maybe, he mentioned privately to one of his aids just before his assassination that he was worried about security. Perhaps, he had been warned about his trip to Dallas beforehand, and in a speech to White House staff, he acknowledged security worries. With strong confidence though, he vowed to undertake a trip that could mean danger. Direct quotations and statements from experts—witnesses who were alive at the time. [Pg.100]

In intention phase I feel we are just bemusing each other with hollow-sounding statements of intent. I would much rather pursue my private crusade . [Pg.189]

This was a cherished idea of Adam Smith s forerunner, Benurd Mandeville, whose slogan Private Vices, Public Benefits" is perhaps the earliest statement of the invisible-hand mechanism. [Pg.104]

Professional feedback comes in many forms a performance evaluation, comments after work performed, or peer reviews. This type of feedback is positive in that it can highlight your strengths and identify areas that need improvement. You learn and grow from professional feedback, assuming you can assimilate the information without being defensive. The information given is nonemotional it is a simple statement of what the reviewer sees in your abilities. Professional feedback is given in private to prevent embarrassment of the subject. One last aspect of professional feedback is that it relates only to your work-related activities. [Pg.128]

Provider-related outcome statements tend to be similar with little variation due to the commonality of why companies exist. All corporations, public or private, exist to provide valuable products and services, to make a profit, and to do so safely and without harm. [Pg.13]

Choose one item from the list of features and craft a statement that represents the current reality. Often, this statement reflects a poorly satisfied customer expectation, or a job the solution has trouble fulfilling. Or it could be something taken for granted or rarely questioned. The Private Pools team, for example, chose the statement private swimming pools require a large outdoor area. Bypassing this traditional notion could extend the reach of the company s product to people who don t have large backyards, or who live in a climate with cold winters. [Pg.128]

An ideal gas (Sec. i. is a irrodel gas comprised of iirragiirary irrolecules of zero volume that do irot iirteract. At the time this statement of the famous Boyle s law was written, there were no scientific publications and information was necessarily transmitted through personal communications. The Royal Society was not founded until two years later and its journal. The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, was first published in 1665. Even though a number of scientific journals were introduced during the 18th and early 19th centuries, personal letters remained an important means of communicating scientific information. Much of Scheele s work, for example, was transmitted in this way. At present, only infrequent references to private communications or unpublished data are found. [Pg.112]

The first text is a quite extraordinary homage to the capitalist as the unconscious agent of humanity and civilization. The second contains a blatantly teleological statement to the effect that the interests of the species always assert themselves. True. Marx also appears to suggest a mechanism through which the species interest can assert itself, namely by coinciding with the private interest of certain individuals. But since nothing Is said about why this coincidence should enable those private interests to get the upper hand, we are left with an unsubstantiated postulate. ... [Pg.115]

Maxx does not seem to have been aware of the obstacles to such transfers of public goods to private industry. U may be impossible to internalize the benefits from the public good and even if this obstacle ts overcome, by means of a toll or a similar arrangement, private provision may lead to a wasteful duplication of efforts. True, Marx does mention in passing that private industry, to gel a profit from public works, requires "protective tariffs, monopoly, stale coercion", but the reasoning behind this statement is obscure, and the mention of the state is in any ( se at odds with the central idea being defended. [Pg.400]
